I've suggested "crumbling" and "collapsing" for Tom's, Alejandro's can be "poison absorption and neutralization", a la "bliss and horror" and "activation and deactivation", I remember suggesting "mineralization" for Gordon's, opposing "silification" because not all sand is silicate oxide, but "sand transmutation" isn't really an offshot, people didn't like it because it can be interpreted as transmuting sand into other stuff.
