This could be done either by bending light so objects and subjects appear different (or nonexistent), by projecting a false image or sensation to the subject’s mind, or by covering an object, subject or an area of space with illusory energy to make things appear different than what they actually are (or to give the illusion of the presence of nonexistent things).
