Peter Sambala is the biological son of Arthur Sambala and Angela Rahl, and adopted son of biological uncle George and his wife Molly. He is a second generation evolved human with the ability to duplicate the abilities of other evolved humans and replicate them at will. Initially ignorant to his true parentage, Peter grew up under foster care a normal child. Taken by Darken Rahl at a young age and employed as a kitchen slave, Peter's standing in Rahl's administration rocketed after the discovery of his ability. Peter's numerous acquired skills have propelled him to becoming Rahl's right hand man- a role which he initially took with great stride. Recently, however, after his acquisition of an ability to see the future Peter has shown signs of mutiny in his "mission" to locate and incapacitate the the seeker.

Evolved Human Abilities
Peter's base power allows him to duplicate and then replicate the abilities of other evolved humans. The act of mimicking produces a momentary blue glow to Peter's eyes as his DNA reconfigures to accept the new ability.

Initially, Peter's understanding of his power was very limited, and it took great mental effort to "synchronise" his mind with the person whose ability he was after. After mimicking his first abilities by mistake, Peter was shown to become frustrated in attempting to mimic others, especially when the target was of a very determined or devoted mentality. Peter mimicked Issac's ability of Precognition passively whilst they were both in an opium induced state, indicating that a level of mental parity is necessary for the mimic to occur. He acquired Telepathy through pre-knowledge and deceit after stirring Matt Parkman into a state of cold rage- a state he knew well, indicating that emotional understanding (empathy) may be vital for the mimic to occur. After acquiring Telepathy, Peter often used that ability to force his target's minds into mental parity so as to acquire their powers. As Peter became more adept at Telepathy, this process became much simpler and quicker for him.

In Dying of the Light Peter's base ability was modified by Darken Rahl's subtractive magic, allowing for him to use it to acquire Kahlan Amnell's confession power, which he did. However, it also meant that those abilities he had acquired through his base power were ineffective against anyone possessing subtractive magic, although not entirely obsolete. Peter has shown to be able to use his Telekinetic and Telepathic powers partially against such people, and his passive abilities, such as Rapid Cell Regeneration are unaffected too.

In Season 2 Peter mimicked his brother Nathan's ability of Intuitive aptitude to understand how to control an explosive ability. With this power came a greater understanding of all the abilities he possessed, including his own, meaning he no longer seemed to need to use Telepathy to achieve mental parity. It is still somewhat unknown the exact nature of Peter's ability, in the sense of what exactly is needed for the mimic to occur, but it is now clear that Peter has mastered the act of mimicking as he can now do so at will, with little effort.

In An Invisible Thread all of Peter's abilities were taken away by his father, however his base power was unaffected suggesting that Arthur's ability and Peter's ability are either similar or potentially two sides of the same ability. Possibly due to Darken Rahl's modifications Peter also retained Kahlan's confession power- which he used to defeat his father, before copying his power and using it against him to reacquire his lost powers. Peter has since shown that he needs to use either that or his base power to counteract The hunger of Intuitive aptitude lest he be forced to rip open their heads the same way his brother must.
