Joana Laranja is the cousin of Brian Rivers (both of the same age) and also an evolved human. Joana has the ability to manipulate all kinds of energy, and she's the only known evolved human to have it.

Character History

Joana coped with her ability, the day she found out about it. She used to creat forcefields and project energy beams in a forest, near her house, in order to train herself, by her will. When The Company contacted her cousin, she became suspicious of its intentions, although never telling him about this. She continued with her own training sessions in the forest. Two months after the Company contacted her cousin, she learned from him who his uncle is, and the reason why he was being kept in Level 5. She then told him about her suspicions; about how she thought they wanted to turn Bruno into a weapon, augmenting his paranoia. Bruno then became closeted, and never spoke to anyone about his thoughts, therefore, losing communication with Joana. Two months after this happening, in one of her training sessions, she decided to take her powers "up a nodge", and try to see where she could take her powers, without losing control. The experiment did just the opposite, and she created an enormous Energy Bomb. With no control over it, she released it of her hands and it projected itself to a building, exploding and destroying half of it. Through a leak of the police, the Company was notified. That same night, Bruno was breaking in the Primatech facility, checking his and his uncle's files, and overheard Angela Petrelli assigning Noah Bennet and The Haitian to apprehend Joana. Fearing she could be sent to Level 5, he immediatly went to her, intending to flee the country. Moments before the Company broke into her house, she went to Bruno's, who also wanted to escape the Company claws. For the first time, without any help, Bruno tried to use his powers to fly away with Joana. Sadly, he created a small hurricane, however strong enough to destroy 3 houses, including his own, in his neighbourhood. To make the hurricane go away, Joana used her ability to absorb its energy, which this time, went well. In a second attempt at flying, Bruno succeeded, and until now, both of them have been on the run under different aliases.

Evolved Human Abilities and limits

Joana has Energy Manipulation. For all she exhibited, she can create forcefields, energy bombs and absorb energy. She claims she can take the energy of other human beings, not necessairly killing them, and go without food or sleep for a long time. She cannot consume the energy she creates, for an example: she can create Energy bombs, out of nothing, but she can't consume its energy. Therefore, if no living human is nearby, she must eat and sleep to live. It is questionable if she has also Induced radioactivity as a byproduct, which is also very likely, due to her lack of control over high standards of energy.

Notes

• While checking out his files, and his uncle's, Bruno read Joana's, which stated that she may have Induced radioactivity as a byproduct of her ability.
