The hunger is an ability in which the bearer always needs more knowledge and power to "feed" the hunger. Syalr/Gabriel Gray is the original bearer of the hunger and feeds it by taking other people's abilities.
Peter Petrelli is also another bearer of the hunger by obtaining it from Future Gabriel. He succumbs to the hunger by killing futrue Natahan.
