Mario is the main character of a popular video-game series by Nintendo.
About
Mario is a plumber and protagonist in various video-games of his eponymous series. He was created by Shigeru Miyamoto and is Nintendo's mascot. In various of his adventures, Mario must venture through many levels in order to rescue Princess Peach, often kidnapped by the evil Bowser. While the main games of the series fall into the action/adventure genre, with Mario jumping from platforms and evading enemies to reach his goal, the series has enjoyed such tremendous success that various spin-offs have been created, such as tennis, golf or kart games.

This is a reference to Super Mario Bros.: in the game, whenever Mario finished exploring a castle in search of Princess Peach, Toad, a mushroom-like character, would greet him with "Thank you Mario, but our princess is in another castle!".
