Okay, I don't get the point of all these subcategories. What's wrong with just one big one? --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 11:25, 1 July 2007 (EDT)

  • I kind of agree with you, but it's a bit late to go back and change. I just hope we're not categorizing just to categorize. It's nice to see a list of all minors, or a list of all pages that have to do with politics. However, I personally don't see the point in having a list of all disambig pages that have people's names. It doesn't really do any harm, though, other than provide a lot more maintenance to remember when we create disambig pages and remembering all the categories that need to be added. I also would have used the disambig template to make the changes--that way if the name of a category doesn't quite fit (which I'm not a fan of how these category names have taken shape, but that's just me), we could change them through the template rather than going back and changing 103 individual articles again. Oh well. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:30, 1 July 2007 (EDT)
    • I made name one so when a new character or crew member is added you can easily see if there is already a disambig for their name, same for the family. I didn't do the others. I did go slow at first when I thought you were online to see if you had any comments, and Heroe even helped. It can be done with the disambig, I was just not sure how to get it to work right. I am editing it now, all the pages don't need to be changed now, they can be done when they are updated. -Lөvөl 04:16, 4 July 2007 (EDT)
      • When I add new crew or cast members, I just type in their name to see if it comes up. In fact, that's a bit of a better way to check, anyway, because redirects will cover a wider base than the list at category:name (disambig). For instance, if Joe Schmo joins the cast, you can type Joe and see that a page already exists. You can't find "Joe" on the category page. As for the template, it's not really that big a deal. It's the way I would have gone, but I don't think it's worth going back and making somewhere between the 200 or so edits that would be needed. It's fine to add the category when adding a new page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 04:29, 4 July 2007 (EDT)
        • I would have done it that way first also, if I knew how to get it to work right (I can't get it to work now). I don't mind mind going back and making the edits (it gets my edit count up, JK ;). -Lөvөl 04:42, 4 July 2007 (EDT)
          • No, I would just take the option out of the template. About the only tangible benefit to using the template is if we wanted to change the name of the category or make some other mass change. I'd say it's just not worth it. The categories are already manually added and that's all that's necessary. It's not too much trouble to just add the category at the bottom of the page when making a new disambig page....And sometime when I'm less tired I'll show you how to fix up that template. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 04:50, 4 July 2007 (EDT)
            • If you (or another admin) would revert my changes it would be easiest. -Lөvөl 05:05, 4 July 2007 (EDT)
