****You mean the [[Graphic Novel Collection]]? $30 is a bit steep for something I can access online. Maybe somebody will get it for me for Christmas. :) -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 08:28, 4 November 2007 (EST)

*****That's absolutely what I mean. I'm hoping to get it for my birthday or Christmas too, as the only GN I've read is It Takes A Village Parts 1-3 (and I saw [[Maya y Alejandro]] as a vid).--{{User:Lost Soul/sig}} 08:34, 4 November 2007 (EST)

Both Links

  • Hardvice, good idea keeping the link to the interactive graphic novel while adding the PDF version. I didn't think that we'd need both but it makes more sense to have them. --Sidney 01:12, 25 October 2006 (EDT)
    • I mostly did it to make it easier for me to grab screenshots, but hey...--Hardvice 01:49, 25 October 2006 (EDT)
  • Question to the masses: Each Graphic Novel includes an "easter egg" to an image or web site... how do you want the information linked? I've included a reference to in the latest novel to the picture of Sylar in the school hallway... do we want it as a Link, or do you want the images uploaded to the Wiki and referenced internally? --Orne 11:59, 7 November 2006 (EST)
    • They're already linked in the sidebars, but we can also add them to the "External Links" section if you like.--Hardvice (talk) 12:32, 7 November 2006 (EST)
      • Thanks Hardvice... I think if it's already on the page in the sidebar, then I don't think we need to link it twice.. --Orne 12:34, 7 November 2006 (EST)
        • Of course, that doesn't answer the other part of the question. It might not hurt to upload the hi-res paintings at least and replace the screencaps in Isaac's paintings. Hopefully, they'll eventually do the whole series, because some of them have proven very tough to screencap well.--Hardvice (talk) 12:58, 7 November 2006 (EST)

Contextual Definition

We may need to better define the phrase "Graphic Novel" as it pertains to this context, cuz I'm confoozled. Can someone explain to me please why Graphic Novel is now being used to refer to a pdf file consisting of the equivalent of half a dozen comic book pages? What's been produced thus far for the NBC website, which is being called graphic novels plural, is barely enough to constitute a single graphic novel. Granted I'm just an old poot, but "DarkKnight Returns" was a graphic novel. Watchmen was a graphic novel. I don't know what it is that's being called graphic novels now, but there needs to be a new word for this cuz this is just silly. If I wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper, I couldn't call it the sports section. Y'know whut ah mean? -- ZachsMind 18:27, 2 February 2007 (EST)

  • NBC's use of the term is a stretch, but not a huge one. "Graphic novel" in reference to any comic book, not just the good ol' long format ones, isn't all that uncommon when people are too pretentious to say "comic book" (like a lot of academic articles). Unfortunately, since that what they've elected to call them, we're kind of stuck with it. But I totally agree: six pages do not a novel make.--Hardvice (talk) 18:38, 2 February 2007 (EST)
    • Oh, those boys over at NBC, they're just redefining the medium, aren't they, the li'l' radicals! Revolutionary! I do love the GNs, but would actually prefer to see them released once a month with a lot more content. Maybe when I'm rich and famous ... — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:03, 2 February 2007 (EST)

Videos

I just found that on the NBC website you can view the S2 Graphic Novels as videos... like a slideshow. It's very cool. I was just wondering if there's anyone else who reads the novels in this way?--  Lost Soul   talk  contribs  17:03, 3 November 2007 (EDT)

  • I checked them out back when they were first introduced for one of the Golden Handshake novels. Not a bad concept, but I think I prefer to read them the old fashioned way cause the animation tends to jump on my slow computer. If they made it into a cartoon, or added a variable delay, I might like the animated videos more.--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:14, 3 November 2007 (EDT)
    • I prefer the old fashioned way (since when is reading a comic book online "old fashioned"?), but I really enjoy checking out the animated versions too. There's something about seeing images that move and watching it set to music. Plus, you can see the full, unobstructed art for a few moments without the text boxes getting in the way. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:36, 4 November 2007 (EDT)
      • For me, I prefer the videos simply because I'm too lazy to read them, which is awful, I know. By the way, is anyone here gonna be getting the big bumper comic book they're releasing, with all of the Season 1 GNs in? See Amazon.--  Lost Soul   talk  contribs  07:38, 4 November 2007 (EST)
