Charles Darwin (12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) was an English naturalist mostly known for having proposed and provided scientific evidence that all species of life have evolved over time from one or a few common ancestors through the process of natural selection.

About

Charles Darwin's theory of evolution is used as the basis for much of Chandra Suresh's research of the evolution of humans. Chandra's book, Activating Evolution is similar to Darwin's On the Origin of Species (1859). Darwin received much more support from the scientific community than the Sureshes are for their theories.

History

Homecoming

In a dream, Mohinder views his father talking to Nirand. Chandra tells Nirand that people thought Darwin was crazy for his ideas. In another dream, Mohinder views a discussion he had with his father, where Chandra quotes Darwin and claims that a scientist should have a heart of stone and that Mohinder does not. Later, Mohinder tries "Darwin" as the password to his father's computer, which does not work.

Unexpected

Claude tells Peter that Charles Darwin bred pigeons, and compares Peter to those pigeons.

Four Months Later

In a science class at Costa Verde High School, a science teacher asks the questions who said "In the struggle for survival, it is the fittest who win out at the expense of their rivals." The answer, known by Claire, is Charles Darwin.

Trivia

• In reality, it was not Charles Darwin that coined the term the survival of the fittest. Herbert Spencer coined the term in the 1864 Principles of Biology.
