I'm thinking it's about time to write an article for the sickness that killed Shanti, ailed the dying patient, and was an obstacle to Molly. I'm not sure how to categorize it, or name it for that matter. A promo for Season Two called it the "Shanti virus", which I'm alright with until we find out more about it in S2. -- 15:13, 4 September 2007 (EDT)

** Generally, yes. It needs some minor grammatical changes (U.S. spelling, "people who", not "people which"), and I'd add some links and more history (Shanti from Homecoming, Molly from Landslide), but the content seems excellent, non-speculative, and ready to go...if it's generally agreed that it should be an article. Again, the name is tough. I don't mind "The virus", but I'd rather something more specific. Again, NBC called it "Shanti virus", but that's kinda silly. Maybe "the virus" is okay until S2 starts? -- 15:23, 4 September 2007 (EDT)

*** I deleted the entry because he never visited the dying patient. Maybe that was his intention, but he never did. All he did was hug the director. Nothing was secretive about it. Next week, Mark tells us we'll learn a lot more about the Primatech guy and find out why he's there. Then we can add something on secrets and deception if something secretive or deceptive occurs. I don't doubt the guy was there with dubious intentions. But until something happens with him, anything else is speculating, right? -- 00:06, 6 September 2007 (EDT)

*** Oh. I dont particularly care for the recurring themes articles anyway, so I don't really have a good opinion on it. Primatech is by its very nature a deception, but I personally don't know if there's anything specifically deceptive about his visit to the hospital. (Admin 00:07, 6 September 2007 (EDT))
**** My point was that the paper business seems to be a front localized in Odessa. We've never seen Bennet meet with any actual clients in Odessa or elsewhere. I do realize that doesn't mean he or someone else hasn't done so, but to me it's unlikely. I do see your point, but this is not as much about the entry (which was incorrect) as Ryan's comment that there was nothing secretive about the guy.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:22, 6 September 2007 (EDT)
***** Well there's not anything secretive about the guy...at least not yet. -- 06:06, 6 September 2007 (EDT)
* Primatech does seem to run a legitimate paper business in addition to being a front for the Company. I don't think we can say with any certainty that any given employee is privy to the Company's side of the business until we see them acting in the Company's interest. Rufus, for example, in all likelihood believes he's just a security guard at a paper plant. Heck, it's even possible that Lisa is just a paper company employee Bennet roped in to pose as Claire's mommy.--Hardvice (talk) 00:03, 6 September 2007 (EDT)

Dying patient's power
* If the teenaged dying patient had the Shanti virus, should we assume his powers were suppressed until he received Mohinder's transfusion and that the previous blackout in the story was unrelated to either patient? Or is this evidence that the virus can affect people's powers in different ways other than simple suppression? Thoughts? (PS: Mark said in a 9th wonders post that the adult patient didn't cause any blackouts...he didn't say what did...)--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:48, 6 September 2007 (EDT)
** Well, I don't think we should assume anything. That said, the way I read it, the teenage patient was causing all the blackouts. I took it that the virus was making his power go haywire. But that's just my own interpretation, and it can obviously be taken more than one way. I'll see if I can bring it up in my conversation with Mark next week. -- 06:51, 7 September 2007 (EDT)

Absenteeism

Just wanted to let y'all know that I won't be around for the better part of the day tomorrow. It's the first day I meet my students after the summer, and then I'm teaching three back-to-back piano lessons. I'll be available at night if anybody needs anything. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:19, 3 September 2007 (EDT)

Questions

Any questions about this novel that you'd like me to ask Jason Badower or Mark Sable, please post them at this link: Interview talk:Blackout#Interview Questions. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:38, 4 September 2007 (EDT)

Easy redirect

I made hospital (Blackout) redirect to New York City hospital (Blackout). That way, when typing, it's much easier to write "In the hospital (Blackout), Mohinder was met with opposition." than "In the hospital, Mohinder was met with opposition." Hope that helps...and it's something I think we should generally do for hospitals, and maybe consider doing for homes and apartments, too. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:11, 4 September 2007 (EDT)

Shanti virus

I'm thinking it's about time to write an article for the sickness that killed Shanti, ailed the dying patient, and was an obstacle to Molly. I'm not sure how to categorize it, or name it for that matter. A promo for Season Two called it the "Shanti virus", which I'm alright with until we find out more about it in S2. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:13, 4 September 2007 (EDT)

  • User:DocM/The virus. I already started one - is it good enough for main space? --DocM 15:14, 4 September 2007 (EDT)
    • Generally, yes. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:23, 4 September 2007 (EDT)
      • We should go with what NBC calls it... so 'Shanti virus' works best for me. Hers is the first known case, as far as we know. I would add it to portal:things/items--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:25, 4 September 2007 (EDT)

Timeline

Should we label the events in the story as being in November 2006? They appear to happen after HTSAEM but I'm not sure exactly how long after...--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:21, 4 September 2007 (EDT)

  • Let's ask Jason and Mark. I'm sure they'll give us a better answer. But for now, I'd say it's tough to pin it down to anywhere between those four months. I'd just make a heading for "After November 8" or something similar, to be on the safe side. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:24, 4 September 2007 (EDT)
    • I just left Jason a comment on his blog about it.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:08, 4 September 2007 (EDT)
      • Unfortunately, I believe he's already submitted the art for Part 2. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:03, 5 September 2007 (EDT)
        • Perhaps, but there's still plenty of time to make revisions if he wants to do make them.--MiamiVolts (talk) 10:06, 5 September 2007 (EDT)

Primatech agent

I'm puzzled that Ryan doesn't think it's been made clear that the Primatech guy is more than just a paper salesman. Do we still have to question whether primatech agents could be just salesmen?--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:56, 5 September 2007 (EDT)

  • Is this part of an existing discussion somewhere? (Admin 23:57, 5 September 2007 (EDT))
    • He deleted the entry I made on Secrets and deception. I figured here was the best place to reply as it's a question that has to do with more than just that one entry.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:59, 5 September 2007 (EDT)
