The Haitian recollects his childhood in the Haitian village where his father Guillame was a leader. The Tonton Macoutes, the militia run by the Duvaliers, attack the village to find Guillame, who defends the village using his ability. He is interrupted by his son accidentally blocking it, as his power of mental manipulation first manifests.

Nathan and Peter fly to Haiti, but fall into a river when an eclipse occurs. They find the Haitian and help him find Baron Samedi. Nathan is captured by Samedi's men.

In a Haitian prison, Nathan meets Vivienne and Marie, and decides to use his influence for good. Peter and the Haitian work to overpower Baron Samedi, which they do. Nathan and Peter part, disagreeing on Arthur's plans.
