Site Statistics

Peak usages are Tuesdays after the new episodes air. There is still decent constant visitor growth (visitors in days 4-7 after the new episode) and peak growth is approx. 60% growth over last week (Averaging 170% growth from week 1 of operation).

Statistics Features

Is it possible to show number of registered users on the statistics page? As well, it'd be nice to the statistics that are listed in order of days, either descending or ascending. Right now it shows Nov 1 - Nov 30, and then flips to Oct. Is it possible to make it Oct 1 - Oct 31, and then Nov? Or can it show Nov 30 - Nov 1 then Oct 31 - Oct 1? (Was that a mouthful?) Ryangibsonstewart 13:52, 22 November 2006 (EST)

You can get total number of registered users here. As for the charts, I'm just cutting and pasting from a web stats tool I use, so while I suppose I could reverse the dates manually in the html, I dont think it's worth the effort especially because I update it frequently sometimes. I just put the current month at the top because that's the most relevant with previous months below it in case people care to check out the stats there, too. (Admin 16:50, 22 November 2006 (EST))
I agree with you about the chronology. It'd be nice to have it better ordered, but certainly not worth the effort ... Thanks for the info about the stats! Ryangibsonstewart 00:27, 23 November 2006 (EST)

Terrific Tuesdays

  • As you can see, Tuesdays are our busiest days (though things start getting busy shortly after Heroes finishes on Mondays). So far just looking at the Tuesday trends we've had continual (and impressive) growth every Tuesday since the inception of the wiki. Excellent job, everyone! We had over 5700 visits yesterday (any two hits from the same IP with less than an hour between them is considered 1 visit). Since we started we've had over 32,000 unique visitors (technically unique IPs) and that number's growing constantly, too. The site is growing very well and we should all be very pleased with the work we've done to help. (Admin 00:12, 29 November 2006 (EST))
  • We've continued our trend of weekly growth reaching 6985 visits yesterday alone! Very nice! Since Heroes will be rerunning for a while I suspect the Tuesday traffic will subside a little bit in the coming weeks, but we'll see. More and more people are visiting the wiki every day and we continue to be mentioned on more message boards, blogs, and fansites each day! (Admin 00:22, 6 December 2006 (EST))
    • I've noticed we're creeping our way up the page for Google searches, too. We're at least #3 for most Heroes-related inquiries.--Hardvice (talk) 00:25, 6 December 2006 (EST)
      • And people are clicking on them, too. We get a ton of hits from Google searches for all sorts of Heroes-related queries. (Admin 00:33, 6 December 2006 (EST))
  • Once again we've reached an all-time high number of visits this Tuesday. Cant wait to see what we get next week during the season finale! (Admin 00:04, 16 May 2007 (EDT))

Hiatus Stats

I'm impressed that we've kept pretty steady numbers throughout the mid-season break. Way to go! - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:51, 10 January 2007 (EST)

There's a small increase when they put out a new graphic novel and a larger increase when they've been showing Heroes reruns. I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens on January 22nd. :) (Admin 09:17, 10 January 2007 (EST))
The numbers are growing ... It's like Christmas Eve! - RyanGibsonStewart (talk)

Impressive Monday

  • This this was the most visits we've ever gotten on a Monday (and almost beat out our record Tuesday (which is typically the most active for us)). Extremely impressive. A lot of traffic was driven here by people searching for information on Primatech Paper Co. which they advertised during the episode. Fortunately for us we're among the top Google results for different variants of Primatech Paper Company searches. Can't wait to see what Tuesday has in store! (Admin 01:38, 23 January 2007 (EST))
  • Here's what our bandwidth has looked like for the past 24 hours. Times are in EST.

1/30/07

It's 11 pm EST, and I just checked the current site statistics. I noticed that as of now the numbers for today are low for any normal day and super low for a Tuesday after a new episode. I'm guessing that only a fraction of the statistics for today are logged thus far. Am I right? How does that work? And how is the site really doing?--E rowe 23:04, 30 January 2007 (EST)

The last time Admin updated the statistics was 10:36 am today (noted at the top of the page). But you're right, today's numbers are a bit lower than usual. I know I was busy at work today and have been playing with the kids more than usual today, so I personally had a lot less time online. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:16, 30 January 2007 (EST)
I was waiting for someone to notice the lower numbers. :) This is pretty much the first time we've run without any Google Adwords. I wanted to see how well we'd do without the ads and I'm decently pleased. Last Tuesday I believe I spent $400 in advertising which is a lot for a single day (Monday was probably a couple hundred dollars as well). We're reaching the point now where word of mouth plus decent Google search rankings are driving a good amount of traffic to the site so our dependence on advertising should diminish. This is more or less a necessity since the amount spent advertising is orders of magnitude higher than revenue generated from hosting ads. Not using Google Adwords is going to skew the statistics though and we'll have to start doing comparisons using this week as our baseline. A lot of sites have links to our articles now so we're getting more visits by people actually interested in the information. So while number of visits will be less than before we should still see similar growth and activity. (Admin 00:01, 31 January 2007 (EST))

Great growth

Wow, remember the not-so-far-away days when 5,000 to 6,000 page visits a day was record-breaking? — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:22, 12 March 2007 (EDT)

Stat updates

  • Statistics might not be updated for a little while now that I have Squid processing requests on the front end. I may have to aggregate the statistics across the caches and probably break it up to display cached results in addition to results that hit Apache. A small price to pay if it improves performance during our peak times. (Admin 01:34, 7 May 2007 (EDT))

Continuing to grow

For those interested, here's the bandwidth utilization over the past 24 hours for (mostly) Heroes Wiki.

Almost 32,000

Wow, no wonder why the sites been slow. Awesome though.--Bob 02:23, 23 May 2007 (EDT)

  • It may have been more in fact. I may have lost some with the work I was doing with the caches, but yeah we're continuing to grow quickly! Things should calm down for a while now, but once season 2 begins we can expect it to jump right back up again. (Admin 02:29, 23 May 2007 (EDT))

Re: Up today

I think it has more to do with just how great an episode Company Man was (even as a rerun), but things are looking up! :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:12, 4 September 2007 (EDT)

  • FYI traffic was pretty high throughout the whole day. A lot of the traffic is people looking for information and spoilers on Season Two so we definitely want to keep those spoilers updated! (Admin 01:18, 4 September 2007 (EDT))
    • That's definately one of the reasons. We're down to the last three weeks before Season Two!--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:21, 4 September 2007 (EDT)

10974

Wow, and the newest graphic novel hasn't even been released! This is officially the highest amount of visits this summer. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:28, 18 September 2007 (EDT)

  • Yeah, the highest since June 5th! I think it definately helped that they re-aired the season 1 finale tonight.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:34, 18 September 2007 (EDT)
    • Exactly. The commercials have been helping too. I've had about 4 people ask me if they can borrow the DVD after I mentioned I just got it.--Bob 00:36, 18 September 2007 (EDT)
      • It's been high throughout the day, though it spiked at 11pm EST like it does during the regular season (albeit not nearly as highly as it does during the regular season). We're getting a lot of searches from the UK recently since they're in the middle of Season One right now I do believe. Next few weeks are going to be fun! (Admin 00:40, 18 September 2007 (EDT))

Font?

Just wondering does <font class="currentday"> do anything? I don't see a difference. -Lөvөl 03:27, 22 September 2007 (EDT)

  • I don't either. The stats are simply copied from the source code, so it may have something to do there, but I honestly don't know for sure. To me, it's just a copy/paste job. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:18, 22 September 2007 (EDT)

Season Two Premiere

  • It's going to be an interesting night. Excitement and anticipation must have everyone out looking for information already because we've been pumping out an average of 1 megabit all day. Can't wait to see what happens later tonight after the premiere airs. (Admin 18:45, 24 September 2007 (EDT))
    • Oh, is the premiere tonight? Golly, I better TiVo it, eh? :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:51, 24 September 2007 (EDT)
  • So after the show aired on the East coast we spiked up to something like 3x the peak traffic we saw during the season one finale and the new server didn't even break a sweat. We're in good shape! (Admin 22:55, 24 September 2007 (EDT))
    • Awesome. Good job.--Bob 00:21, 25 September 2007 (EDT)
      • Awesome. Though we didn't best the total views of the Season One finale, we did get very close.--MiamiVolts (talk) 03:11, 25 September 2007 (EDT)
        • Tuesdays are typically better...just wait. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:24, 25 September 2007 (EDT)
  • Admin, I'd be interested in seeing the bandwidth for today. Any chance you'd be able to upload that later tonight? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:15, 25 September 2007 (EDT)
    • Done. Might need to force a refresh if you still see the old image. The new one has 20:00 at the far right of the time scale. (Admin 20:52, 25 September 2007 (EDT))
      • Wow, that's pretty steady. Thanks for the image. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:24, 25 September 2007 (EDT)

Wow

  • That's a record...by 41 visits! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:59, 17 October 2007 (EDT)
    • We just barely squeaked by to break our previous record... and this wasn't even a finale! Very exciting! Bandwidth utilization was also nice, too. (Admin 01:02, 17 October 2007 (EDT))

Got a new record

I'm starting to see The Symbol in the Heroes Wiki bandwidth graphs... hmm.

  • We're going to have a new record number of visits once the stats are updated at midnight. Very exciting. (Admin 22:24, 30 October 2007 (EDT))
    • Awesome. I noticed yesterday we had what appeared to be a record for Monday hits, so I figured we'd get a record for Tuesdays, which is the overall records. Nice.--Bob (talk) 01:15, 31 October 2007 (EDT)
      • Oh no, the symbol!!! -- Riffsyphon1024 23:13, 5 November 2007 (EST)
        • Did you see my original comment above the image? :) I thought the same thing when I originally posted the image. heh (Admin 23:16, 5 November 2007 (EST))
          • Yes I saw, and it looks so much like it. You were right. -- Riffsyphon1024 00:18, 8 November 2007 (EST)

New bandwidth record

  • New bandwidth record. Very nice. Server handled things just fine. Good to know. (Admin 22:36, 5 November 2007 (EST))
    • Wow, that's pretty impressive. (Did something happen at 10 pm EST?) :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:04, 5 November 2007 (EST)
      • That will happen when you have a show like this. :D -- Riffsyphon1024 23:12, 5 November 2007 (EST)
      • I'll tell you what happened at 11pm... we passed our record number of Monday visits. :) Let's see if tomorrow can break the previous Tuesday record, too. (Admin 23:13, 5 November 2007 (EST))
        • Schweet.--Bob (talk) 23:32, 5 November 2007 (EST)
        • Sure enough... broke our Tuesday record, too, by quite a bit! (Admin 00:02, 7 November 2007 (EST))

2 million hits for November. Wow!

nt -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:19, 1 December 2007 (EST)

  • You're looking at the average for November there. :) The total hits for November were 60 million. :) We broke all our October records. Very nice! (Admin 01:20, 1 December 2007 (EST))
    • Right, pretty good average, eh? I was surprised that our Thanksgiving numbers actually went up from the previous week. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:12, 1 December 2007 (EST)
