Interview with R.D. Hall

I will be interviewing R.D. Hall on Tuesday, April 8. R.D. wrote Hana and Drucker's Plot Discovered, The End of Hana and Drucker, Bounty Hunter, and the last graphic novel in the Linda Tavara set. Feel free to post any questions you'd like me to ask R.D. below, and I'll see which ones I can work into the interview. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:50, 18 March 2008 (EDT)

  • I think we're all on the same page, but I just want to be explicitly clear. To avoid spoilers, any questions about R.D.'s future graphic novels should wait until after they are released. That's why I arranged the interview for April 8. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:28, 19 March 2008 (EDT)

Questions for R.D.

General

  • How did you come about working for Heroes, and getting to write the GNs?--SacValleyDweller (talk) 23:40, 18 March 2008 (EDT)
  • Where you a viewer/fan of Heroes before you wrote the graphic novels?--Citizen 20:14, 19 March 2008 (EDT)

Hana and Drucker storyline

  • Are we going to see Drucker and Hana again?
  • When was the story set in?
  • Did Bob get the data he wants in the end?
  • How did the doctors get the data from Matt's brain? 23:29, 18 March 2008 (EDT)
  • You did quite a bit of research about mind uploading. Can you tell us about what you learned and how it influenced your writing?
  • What kind of direction did NBC give you--did they say "kill Hana and Drucker" or did they give you all the details or was it somewhere in between?
  • Can you confirm that the 3-d glasses/goggles Elle gives Matt Neuenberg to wear are a reference to Tron?
  • Did Hana supposedly go to Bhutan before entering the Company's mainframe? In other words, I mean, why wouldn't the Company have discovered Hana's transmission (from New Orleans)?
  • Is Matt dead or is he going to survive like Hana Gitelman and Richard Drucker?
  • The message from NBC "The real Richard Drucker died in a plane crash years ago" would mean that he went through the gate of dead when he was landing, was that already landing in cyber space? (--Juba 07:53, 26 March 2008 (EDT))
  • Hana's last words were "See you later" (in Hindi). Why not just "Goodbye" or "Farewell"? (Is this a hint that she might not be kaput?)

Linda Tavara storyline

  • Is Linda's death a final one?
    • Has she absorbed regeneration from some one?
      • is there a possiblity that she could make an apperance in the show?--Anthony Gooch 22:41, 27 March 2008 (EDT)
  • How many abilities does Linda actually have, roughly? --DocM 15:39, 8 April 2008 (EDT)

Graphic Novel:Bounty Hunter

  • In the script, you specified in captions several times the number of weeks that had gone by. It was great to get a time-reference like that, but it is unclear as to what "later" meant. In other words, was the scene at the bar four weeks after Linda met Pamela or four weeks after Linda met her informant (the mystery woman) for the first time?
  • When Linda was on the pay phone in the bar, the script makes it clear that it is Linda talking to her informant. But from the dialogue alone, it is possible to think that Linda was talking with the manager of another facility whose waitress claimed Jason Welkes had quit three weeks ago. Is that something you could have clarified for the lettering people (Comicraft)? On 9th Wonders, it was mentioned that you didn't have any contact with the artist until after the work was published. Have you had any contact with the people involved in the lettering process with this or any of your other novels?
  • The script for Bounty Hunter is now on a post at 9th Wonders. But since 9th Wonders is a message board, the message may eventually expire. Would you give permission to archive your script here at Heroes Wiki?
  • Is Pamela meant to be Pam Green from Chandra's list?
  • What about Linda's power? And why did mentioning the police immediately send her what appeared to be into depression and defeat by her employer?
  • What can you tell us about the mechanic, Pamela and Jason Welkes's ability?

Moonlight Serenade

Is Ida May Walker meant to be related to James and Molly Walker? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 18:17, 8 April 2008 (EDT)

Interview done...

...112 minutes later, I have a ton of information from R.D. It's going to be a beast to transcribe, but part of the reason is because we both sat on the phone with scores of notes and the internet at our fingertips. We did a lot of chatter which won't be included, but that also means I have some clean up to do. Just giving a heads up. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:16, 8 April 2008 (EDT)

  • Wow! Nice. I hate to ask, but do you have an ETA an the transcription? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 22:26, 8 April 2008 (EDT)
    • Golly, no idea! I have some time to work on it this week, and my goal is Monday, but I rarely meet my goals. In the meantime, if there are any specific questions about the interview, let me know, and I'll tell you what I can. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:29, 8 April 2008 (EDT)
      • So much for goals, eh? My laptop crashed and it looks like I'll need to replace my hard drive. The transcriptions I had done thus far are probably gone, so I'm back at square one. Sorry, all! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:01, 16 April 2008 (EDT)
        • *Crashing sounds* AAAAAAARRGG! *sigh* </over the top rxn> That sucks! So you got an eta on the re-transcription? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 16:35, 16 April 2008 (EDT)
  • Big huge thanks go to MiamiVolts who transcribed the second half of the interview. We're still waiting on the first half to be finished, so this interview should not be considered "live" quite yet. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:08, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
    • SVD, I think we owe Ryan three cheers. Therequiembellishere 22:33, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
      • I'll take one cheer, but the other two cheers need to go to User:MiamiVolts and Baldbobbo who are doing the transcriptions. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:43, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
        • Heh. Thanks, Ryan. The bold looks good and the corrections look okay. I listened several times to the part where R.D. says "medium" <something> and it sounded to me like "medium receptive", but I'm okay with either since it's not real clear.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:13, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
          • *releases breath being held over this, turns back to normal color* The 2nd half of the interview was imformative! Now to hold my breath for the 1at half. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 00:48, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
            • I'm workin on it.--Bob (talk) 01:18, 9 June 2008 (EDT)
              • *Is still patiently holding his breath, now turning a tense purple* --SacValleyDweller (talk) 23:51, 11 June 2008 (EDT)
                • :) All I have to do now is fill in a few minutes here and a few minutes there. It will be done tonight. Hooray! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:01, 12 June 2008 (EDT)
