* Great interview, Ryan! Glad to see that it was allowed to be released to us. Ok, I've just finished announcing this over at IMDb and 9th Wonders. From your comment, I take it you'll be e-mailing the rest.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 11:34, 27 July 2008 (EDT)

New Interview...

It's still a bit early, but Ollie Grigsby told me he'd love to organize something with Jason Badower, Zach Craley, and me after Part 3 is released. I still have to hear back from Jason, but I'm sure he'll be cool with it. Zach still has to confirm... In any case, I'm thinking I might do it a bit differently since our schedules will be a bit crazy. I'm thinking of maybe doing an IM chat or something, I don't know... We'll see... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:40, 4 June 2008 (EDT)

  • Okay, Zach, Ollie, and Jason have all agreed. Now we just need to set a date and time and all that logistical stuff... I want to do this sort of as a chat room discussion where we can all post simultaneously, and then I can just go back and c&p the whole thing after a bit of editing.... What's the best place (software, on the web, or otherwise) for me to organize this? Any suggestions? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:31, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
    • Well, if they're willing to download and install free instant messaging software, Trillian appears to be a good one. It's compatible with AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, and IRC, and I think it allows logging (not sure if the latest version does, but you can test it). However, if they don't want to download anything, you could just send them a username and password for a secure chat room. A good site for that is Campfire and it's free. Click here for a 5 minute video that explains/demos the site.--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:56, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
      • Thanks, Miami. I'd like to go with something free and that doesn't require downloading. The less work required for the interviewees, the better. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:32, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
        • Campfire's probably your best bet, then. Let me know if you have trouble with it.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:40, 8 June 2008 (EDT)

Green light?

Do we have a green light on this, yet, Ryan? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 20:22, 15 June 2008 (EDT)

  • Sort of. All three guys have agreed to do the interview. On Friday or Saturday I emailed them all and tried to coordinate a day/time when we could all sign on to Campfire together (I suggested Saturday evening which would be Sunday morning for Jason). I haven't heard back from them yet, and my internet connection up at camp isn't allowing me to sign on to Hotmail. I might have to have my wife check my email from home later tomorrow or something. Bottom line, we're just figuring out when we can do the interview. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:16, 15 June 2008 (EDT)
    • I just figured out a "sneaky" way (not really) way to check my mail, and I haven't gotten a reply from any of them yet. However, I just sent the email a little more than 24 hours ago (and Jason is usually very prompt with his replies) so I'll give it another couple of days until I follow up. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:22, 15 June 2008 (EDT)
      • Any news? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 22:33, 19 June 2008 (EDT)
        • Jason and I both are having internet access issues. I might (unfortunately) make this an email interview so we don't have to coordinate schedules where we can all have access at the same time. :( -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:59, 21 June 2008 (EDT)
          • That would be a shame, especially since Ollie bailed the last time we sent him questions for an e-mail interview. Is a multi-party phone call through your service an option? It might be harder to transcribe and we might not get all our questions answered, but at least then the interview might get done...--MiamiVolts (talk) 12:31, 21 June 2008 (EDT)
            • It's not really fair to say that Ollie bailed last time--he was asked by NBC not to answer the questions, if I recall correctly. Anyway, for this time around, NBC said the only way that Zach and Ollie could do the interview would be to email them the questions so they would be approved. I've emailed them to all three guys, and we'll see what happens next. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:33, 25 June 2008 (EDT)
              • True. It wasn't really Ollie's fault. so I'll cross my fingers again and hope for the best. Last time, we sent both episode script and graphic novel questions to him, and he couldn't answer either cause NBC said don't answer. Later, when R&B1 came out, Ollie clarified a few points about the Revolutionary War series at 9th wonders. So did you send all the old questions to him again as I suggested below, or just the ones about Root and Branch?--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:55, 25 June 2008 (EDT)
                • Just the questions below. I didn't think it was fair to send a bunch of questions to Zach and Jason that had to do with the episodes and graphic novels they didn't work on. Plus, NBC already told Ollie not to answer those questions, and I want to respect that. However, I have no problem taking advantage of NBC's short term memory, and sending the list of questions below. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 08:53, 25 June 2008 (EDT)

Update

I'm not sure as to whether this will have any influence as to whether the interview questions get answered, but today Jason, Ollie and Zach are all meeting together at the Heroes studios. Jason let us know on his latest blog entry last night.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:55, 27 June 2008 (EDT)

Other questions

  • In addition to the questions below, I think you should consider adding some of the ones we already came up with for Ollie's first interview, which he couldn't do. See Interview talk:Oliver Grigsby for those questions.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:02, 20 June 2008 (EDT)

Questions

  • What's up with all the cloning, Ollie? First Evan, then Julien...
  • What is the life span of a clone?
  • Can clones make clones?
  • How do Evan's power and Julien's power differ?
  • Do clones have bellybuttons?
  • Can you confirm that it was Gael Cruz who was shown promoting Sabine to her new position as the Hartsdale duplicate's partner? It looks like him with the beard and glasses, but the faded picture makes it hard to tell.
  • Do the Roswell-like symbols on the trees of the Utah picnic spot have any meaning?
  • What level of security did the root Julien have?
  • Any chance we're going to see how the rogue clones escaped, including the clones who traveled to Winnipeg, Gardenia, and Seoul (as noted in the assignment tracker)?
    • There appear to be at least 6 clones in the duplicates' cell. Did those 6 clones include the ones from Winnipeg and Seoul?
  • Did you two writers collaborate on the assignment tracker? Also, did you really come up with "classified" sentences and paragraphs that got omitted or is that just for show?
  • For the July 2007 Comi-con, Jason did an exclusive cover for the Heroes program. The 2008 Comi-con is coming up. Jason, do you know if you will be featured again for the program?
  • The first graphic novel collection was released in November 2007, broke sales records and received an Eisner Award nomination. It covered issues 1-34, and as of the release of Root and Branch, Part 3, we're at issue 90. Ollie, you mentioned on Jason's blog about a page of his revised art making it to the hardcover. Have you heard when a potential Volume 2 for the Heroes graphic novel collection will be released?
    • DC Comics just announced Vol. 2 of the graphic novel collection will be released on November 19, 2008. Do you know what novels will be included?
  • Is the bald man driving the car at the end of Part 3 a clone of Julien?
  • Why did the clones go crazy when Sabine freed Julien? She didn't kill him or hurt him.
  • Can Julien or one of his clones clone someone other than themselves? (like Sabine)
  • Describe the process of writing this GN set.
    • Did one or both of you have to give up anything in the way of ideas in order to write a cohesive whole? If so, what was thrown out?
    • What in part three did you write, Zack? and you, Ollie?
    • Have you, Zach and Ollie, known each other for a long time? Did you meet in person to collaborate on this series?
  • Did you, Zach or Ollie, have any influence in having Jason do the art?
  • Zach, you also have experience being co-producer, co-director and cinematographer for the short documentary City Lights. Do you think that experience has helped you with writing these graphic novels? You are also credited with acting in the film Dbl Rein-Beau. What was that about and how was it to be an actor?

Photo identification questions

(Campfire should allow Ryan to post images for discussion during the interview; whether he decides to use that feature is anyone's guess but I'm posting some images here just in case)

  • In Root and Branch, Part 2, who is the agent that Sabine received her promotion from and told her that Julien would be her knew partner? (It looks like it could be Gael Cruz, but from the image it's hard to tell.)
  • Jason, you revealed on your blog that four of the character designs used in this series came from Peter Steigerwald, and Frank Mastromauro said Peter had made 12 of them. There were two agents that are not readily identifiable that were searching in the garage in part 3 with Thompson and Donna. Did they come from the Steigerwald profiles, and if so, can you please spill their names? :)
  • When the clone in the final escape SUV turns to look at Sabine in Part 3, his hand is bloodied and appears to be holding something. It's hard to make out if it's a tissue, a messaging device or something else altogether. Can someone clarify what that's supposed to be, or if it's supposed to be anything at all?

Questions for next time

  • Is Julien based on David Bowie? --DocM 12:18, 25 June 2008 (EDT)
