Product placement | |
---|---|
Bob hands Monica an iPod. | |
First reference: | Genesis |
Product placement is a promotional tactic used by marketers in which a real commercial product is used in fictional or non-fictional media, and the presence of the product is a result of an economic exchange. When featuring a product is not part of an economic exchange, it is called a product plug. Product placement also occurs with the inclusion of a brand's logo, or a favorable mention or appearance of a product.
Some real-world products have appeared in the fictional world of Heroes.
Appearances

- Claire puts her hand into an InSinkErator garbage disposal (though the InSinkErator logo was removed for the DVD due to a lawsuit).
One Giant Leap
- Ando watches lasvegasniki.com on his iPod.
- At the car rental kiosk in the Los Angeles International Airport, Hiro specifically requests a Nissan Versa and will accept no other vehicle.
Hiros
- After getting a ride back to Las Vegas with Nathan, Hiro finds the Nissan Versa, parked in a garage. Later the Versa is seen again when Ando joins him.

Out of Time
- Bob and Nathan watch video footage of Peter being treated in the Company building on a computer program with the Cisco logo featured prominently on the screen.
Cautionary Tales
- Elle is seen drinking a cup of Slusho while taking to Mohinder. This is a drink which has made multiple cameos in various television shows by J.J. Abrams. It is also a main element in Abrams's film, Cloverfield, the second trailer of which was aired a few days before this episode's airing. This placement carries over to Beeman's Blog for this episode in which multiple cast members are shown posing with Slusho, including James, Adair, Hayden, David, Sendhil, Kristen, Greg, Masi, George and Jack.

Jump, Push, Fall
Heroes Evolutions
- A red Nissan Sentra is parked outside of Primatech Paper on primatechpaper.com's About Us page.
Notes
- Nissan is a primary acknowledged sponsor of the Heroes franchise, sponsoring the broadcast episodes, graphic novels, a free iTunes download of the pilot, as well as Heroes 360. In addition to product placement, they also use traditional and more obvious advertising methods such as television commercials and print ads placed in the beginning of each graphic novel.
- Emerson, makers of the InSinkErator brand in-sink garbage disposal sued NBC for the use of their clearly branded product during a scene where Claire's hand is badly mangled after she places it in a running garbage disposal (Genesis). Emerson claimed NBC misrepresented any risks or potential injuries posed by the InSinkErator on the show, while portraying the brand "in an unsavory light, irreparably tarnishing the product." The company settled with NBC out of court on Feb 23, 2007. [1]
- In the episode commentary for Fight or Flight, Greg Beeman says that he wanted to find a right-hand drive car for Elle to use in Ireland. Greg Grunberg interrupts and helpfully finishes his sentence with "but Nissan doesn't make one."
- Some items seen in the show appear in the show’s timeline considerably before their real-world release.
- In-show, Micah plays Heavenly Sword on a Playstation 3 on or about November 1, 2006. In the real world, these items were released on September 12, 2007 (link) and November 17, 2006 (link) respectively.
- In-show, the Nissan Rogue is a buyable, drivable automobile in March 2007. In the real world, this vehicle was not released until late September, 2007.
- In-show, Victoria Pratt has an aluminum Apple iMac in her house on March 19. In the real world, it was not released until August 7, 2007.
