Created this page to illustrate a recent phenomenon depicted in the show. Barbedknives 14:57, 26 March 2009 (EDT)

  • Isn't this pretty much the same thing as ability development? Shouldn't the pages be merged? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:39, 26 March 2009 (EDT)
    • Excellent point, but I believe the two are fundamentally different ideas. I would hardly consider exhibiting entirely new powers as a form of natural power development. I think merging would be appropriate, though. Barbedknives 17:02, 26 March 2009 (EDT)
      • There seems to be some speculation in the entire article. I'm just not sure we can say that abilities themselves have been altered. For instance, just because Hiro can only access part of his original ability does not mean his ability is altered. Likewise, Mohinder was affected by the correct formula and his power manifest differently in him--was the actual ability altered, though? Perhaps it developed, but I don't know if the ability itself was altered. I think this page either needs to be moved into the user namespace while it's developed, or it needs to be merged with ability development. Quickly. It's being linked from one of our largest navbars, and it's in the main namespace. I'm not sure it should be as it is right now. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:55, 26 March 2009 (EDT)
        • Well with Mohinder it was more of his power correcting itself. Enhanced Strength is his true power, the rest were just connected to those lesions and things that disappeared.--WarGrowlmon18 22:37, 26 March 2009 (EDT)
          • Do we have evidence that enhanced strength was his true power and that the formula made his lesions and wall crawling and cocoon spinning abilities disappear? Sounds logical, but it also sounds theoretical. This page needs to be merged or moved to the user namespace. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:45, 26 March 2009 (EDT)
            • Actually yes: one of the writters I believe said that enhanced strength is his true power and that his other powers were just connected to those lesions. I read it somewhere on this site.--WarGrowlmon18 22:55, 26 March 2009 (EDT)
              • Do you know where? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:21, 26 March 2009 (EDT)
                • "“Is Mohinder's power just enhanced strength now, or is there still more to it (i.e., climbing on walls and stuff)?” Enhanced strength is the only ability remaining. The wall climbing was linked to that goo coming off of his hands and the scales. But whereas Suresh is strong physically, he still has his weak morality to deal with. • It has been merged and redirected. My main gripe is that the term 'development' implies improvement through training and understanding, not restriction or limitation on previous useage. I think it's obvious that the writers found some characters too powerful and are weakening their powers for the sake of storytelling. I think this is distinct from development and training of abilities. Would Matt have naturally developed precognition through his telepathy had it not been for Usutu's intervention? It seems extremely speculative to assume he would. Would Peter or Hiro's powers naturally degraded? Again, speculation. Barbedknives 22:52, 26 March 2009 (EDT)
            • I think the merge looks good. It seems like a much more natural fit...and I'm sure you're happier with the information in the main namespace rather than a user page.... But I don't think anybody is saying that Matt would--or wouldn't have--developed precognition without a spirit walk. Likewise for Peter's and Hiro's powers. I think the article just states that these abilities have changed--what I've read, it seems pretty factual and not speculative at all. (If I'm missing something, let me know.) However, I agree that "ability development" isn't the best term. Feel free to nominate it for a different name by adding {{rename}} to the top of the page. Any new name suggestions should probably be discussed at talk:ability development. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:21, 26 March 2009 (EDT)
              • Thanks for the proper merge, it suits the article well! I'm sort of new to wikis, so I'll keep the changes in mind regarding future articles. I agree the terms can be misleading, and there definitely is something more with what's going in with these powers. I think the title is fine for now, as long as people can realize that the recent shift in powers are unusual and not exactly in the characters' control. --User:Barbedknives 22:27, 26 March 2009

Original Draft

Examples:

  1. Hiro Nakamura had his space-time manipulation removed by Arthur Petrelli's power absorption. It was then partially restored as the less powerful time-manipulation by Matt Parkman, Jr. using his ability.
  2. Peter Petrelli had his empathic mimicry removed by his father's ability. After injecting himself with the genetic modification formula, he retained the less powerful ability replication.
  3. Matt Parkman, a telepath, gains precognition after accessing a plane of consciousness introduced by Usutu.
