From Yoshi n1
Mrs. Comey's hands glow too... does she have induced radioactivity?

Induced Radioactivy?

I'm pretty sure its induced radioactivity, given how the hands glow and she's working at a place that needs nuclear energy. --TrueBlueBrooklynite 12:00, 16 March 2010 (EDT)

  • Yes, this is induced radioactivity without any doubt.-- Yoshi | Talk | Contributions 12:09, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
    • There's some speculation as to whether her ability is induced radioactivity, or an opposite ability, seeing as Mindy was running toward a nuclear meltdown (though it could be construed that she was the meltdown itself). It's a bit iffy still. --Ricard Desi 12:18, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
      • I think to save some time we should put it under Induced Radioactivity. Evidence for it being that are, the ability looks the same as induced radioactivity (the art is by the same person btw), she is the mother of someone with the ability, she works in a nuclear power plant. If it's not, I'll be very, very surprised. I'm almost 98% sure she'll be the cause of the meltdown. As for the running towards, maybe she thought she could get it out, or get close enough to stop it. --mc_hammark 15:23, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
        • We don't have confirmation, so we shouldn't put it. Plain and simple.--PJDEP - Talk - Polls and Opinions 15:24, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
          • Ducks. That's all I'm saying. --mc_hammark 15:27, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
            • Pardon?--PJDEP - Talk - Polls and Opinions 15:31, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
              • I agree with Mc hammark, there is a lot of evidence that this is induced radioactivity. However, I do think that we need an Admin to decide.-- Yoshi | Talk | Contributions 15:33, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
                • IMO there's just as much evidence that it's the opposite ability. Also, it would make sense for the Company to send someone with radiation absorption to a dangerous nuclear plant. It wouldn't make sense for them to send an H-bomb there.--PJDEP - Talk - Polls and Opinions 15:36, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
                  • If Angela dreamt it, they'd send her. And Angela implied she did. --mc_hammark 15:41, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
                    • Angela implied she dreamed, but not what about. Although, I see your point. Mindy will probably be what caused the famed meltdown in RL. Still, to speculative to say for certain.--PJDEP - Talk - Polls and Opinions 15:45, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
                      • She could be the cause of the meltdown in RL, except for the fact that the real life meltdown was in 1979, whereas this is in 1978. --Leckie -- Talk 16:15, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
                        • Good point, but all the family abilities like Maya and Alejandro and Maury and Matt and a lot more, do I need to put all these pictures here too?-- Yoshi | Talk | Contributions 16:35, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
  • The BEST thing to do is keep it as Mindy's ability for now, and then try to name it AFTER the conclusion of the 1978 story arch. And if it's not clear by then what her ability is, we can always shoot the writer an email. --OutbackZack 17:09, 16 March 2010 (EDT)

Things may not be as they seem, guys. For example, is this pyrokinesis? Or these two: are they the same power? Nope. I have no doubts Mindy's power is radiation-related, but it may not be the same as Ted's. AltesUTC CH 02:40, 17 March 2010 (EDT)

Is it possible that TED is the meltdown? And Mindy is just immune to her son's power? Or something? -- Uncanny474 19:28, 17 March 2010

  • Doubt it. Firstly it's unlikely that Ted would even be in the power plant or even the core, secondly, if he did, the company would have him taken in. Plus it is noted by Noah that his ability manifested just a while before season 1. --mc_hammark 17:53, 17 March 2010 (EDT)

No, her power is not induced radiation. It's got to be a distinct ability, because her hands don't glow the same way Ted's do. Hers is more like a glow of light. It may be a radiation based power, but it can't be the same. In the Heroes Universe, powers are often manifested the same way within all superhumans who share similar abilities (Telepathy produces the same special effect, Precognition glazes the eyes over, Water Mimicry, etc. with the exception of Pyrokinesis, in which Flint's fire was blue, unlike the others...) And then on top of that, what does radiation have to do with her using her card or touching that thing to stop a nuclear reaction situation? No manipulation of radiation visibly occured...just like we thought that green energy was gas. No speculation (remember, like y'all are always telling ME?) User:Shadowulf1 01:09, 18 March 2010 (EDT)

  • My guess is that it's Radiation Absorption. Her hands glow yellow when she's absorbing mass amounts of radiation around her, that's why they glowed when she's getting close to the plant core. But then again, it's all speculation for now. My weakest theory is that her ability is concentrated Biolumisence. However, that wouldn't explain why she was selected as a safeguard--Realistic 01:51, 18 March 2010 (EDT)
    • New theory...Her power is Osmosis...the power to gain information from a system by touching it. See page four (pg 4) of the latest graphic novel when she touched that book just before giving the information that she'd found. What does that have to do with radiation? Nothing... it didn't even burn the book, and no one seemed to notice when the glow occurred User:Shadowulf1 12:28, 23 March 2010 (EDT)
      • ^^^I like this. It makes sense and it'd be nice for the writers to come up with a new power, rather than recycle an already fleshed-out idea.--PJDEP - Talk - Polls and Opinions 21:25, 24 March 2010 (EDT)
        • Sylar already has that ability, and it's not called osmosis. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 14:05, 26 March 2010 (EDT)
          • It's slightly different. Let me try this analogy, if Sylar touched a history book, he could see it's past, where it was made and where it had been. If someone with osmosis touched it, they'd know all the information contained within the history book.--PJDEP - Talk - Polls and Opinions 14:11, 26 March 2010 (EDT)
            • It seems that in one of the iStory chapters, in "The Recruit" I believe, Sylar used Clairsentience to learn the contents of many reports while disguised as someone else. It was in a non-optimal sequence of events. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 14:16, 26 March 2010 (EDT)
              • If those were written reports, he would have seen them being written, and therefore known the information in them. I'll agree that there are many similarities, but that doesn't defeat the theory outright. I personally would love to see it come true.--PJDEP - Talk - Polls and Opinions 14:25, 26 March 2010 (EDT)
                • No idea if they were written, all I remember is that someone wanted to keep the person they thought Sylar was busy, so they gave him a bunch of bogus paperwork to do, so he used the ability and called it bogus. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 14:31, 26 March 2010 (EDT)
                  • I only used the term Osmosis because it is the passage of something through a permeable membrane. In this case, knowledge would be passing through the "membrane" of one's skin. I've heard the term used before to describe such a purported ability ("Do your homework; you can't just touch the book and absorb the knowledge by osmosis!") so that's where that came from. And BTW, Clairsentience is not the same as Osmosis, thanks, PJDEP for clearing that up... User:Shadowulf1 16:43, 27 March 2010 (EDT)
                    • But it can work like it. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 16:59, 27 March 2010 (EDT)
                      • Kinda...I'm just sayin'...Heating and Pyrokinesis can both generate fire, and Empathic mimicry and Intuitive aptitude can let you copy abilities; doesn't make them the same... User:Shadowulf1 17:11, 27 March 2010 (EDT)
                        • We don't know that heat generation allows the generation of fire, but they do both produce forms of heat. And when I looked up osmosis I found something about water being transferred, not knowledge. --mc_hammark 17:16, 27 March 2010 (EDT)
                          • Osmosis is when a solvent is displace through a membrane that's permeable only to solvents. The solvent goes through the membrane to even out the concentration of different solutions with the same solute. There's a different quantity of solute in each solution, but through osmosis, the solvent goes from one to the other to even out the concentration. The knowledge figure of speech is actually quite incorrect, since the knowledge would go from where the is more to where there is less, making it diffusion of a solute. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 17:33, 27 March 2010 (EDT)
  • We all seem to be ignoring that her hands are glowing on Page 7. There is nothing to "osmote". --Ricard Desi 17:57, 27 March 2010 (EDT)
    • Hmm...that is why it's a THEORY, isn't it? User:Shadowulf1 00:58, 28 March 2010 (EDT)
      • Desi is only pointing out the negatives to the theory. Just as we'd do if this was on the theory page, which you may as well put there just now, Desi is only adding in the - point. --mc_hammark 08:44, 28 March 2010 (EDT)

AT

Are we going to use the huge name, or are we keeping it short like now? Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 11:52, 28 March 2010 (EDT)

  • Oh god, I hope we stick with the short name. The whole AT profile just looks weird. Enormous name, the picture is the electrical manipulation image, her height is simply listed as "55.5"... --Ricard Desi 11:55, 28 March 2010 (EDT)
    • I think we should stick with the short name, as it generally describes the whole ability. I hated how it was the electric manipulation image, and the height thing just confused me :/ --Leckie -- Talk 11:58, 28 March 2010 (EDT)
      • Hmm... Energy Absorption is good. It doesn't ENTIRELY describe the ability but neither does Mental manipulation, Constriction or Supercharging...it's perfectly okay with me...
        • OHH, so THAT'S why her hand was glowing when she slammed down the binder. Her hand possesses some previous energy she absorbed and lit up with the impact. BRILLIANT! User:Shadowulf1 09:16, 29 March 2010 (EDT)
          • Basically, the name is just like electrical absorption, it also allows storing it and releasing it at a later time, except this isn't just limited to electricity. --mc_hammark 11:52, 29 March 2010 (EDT)
            • Is the huge ability name going to be used in portals and the EV list? Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 19:21, 29 March 2010 (EDT)
              • I prefer the short name, but it's not about what we prefer. We use what's given to us. The name long name has been given to us twice, so that's what we need to call it. I don't mind shortening it in portals, but "official" places (like the title of this page, in Mindy's infobox, or in the list of abilities) need to have the "official" name that was given to us. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:59, 29 March 2010 (EDT)
                • If anything this is great. It gives us more leeway as to how we name abilities where names aren't given to us. Instead of stressing to use two words names to cover a wide range of effects, we can now opt out to use the names that would be best suited. Yes, wordy can be a bummer, but it's better to be wordy and accurate than shot and wrong. --OutbackZack 20:08, 29 March 2010 (EDT)
                  • That's a very positive way of looking at things! But I would look at Mindy's ability as more of the exception than the rule, and we should probably still generally stick to the naming conventions. I would be hesitant to name anything much wordier than activation and deactivation in a case where we had to describe the ability ourselves. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:41, 29 March 2010 (EDT)
                  • Energy manipulation would be a more simple name... oh it's in an assignment tracker, nevermind -- Rocky 21:07, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
                    • Maybe we can abbreviate it as "EATAR" or "EATR" because typing the full name gets really annoying.--BOYCOOL -- THE END IS NIGH. 07:49, 1 April 2010 (EDT)
                      • We do that for STM and RCR which are long names, but still not as long as this. I'm sure we could use that, though links work if you type Energy absorption in. --mc_hammark 07:51, 1 April 2010 (EDT)

Files of Primatech, Part 4

They used to the term "abilities" to describe her power. Thoughts? Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 19:24, 29 March 2010 (EDT)
