The Picture

-Tis sad that the hairy ear picture is the best pic for enhanced hearing. He looks a little nasty. Just a funny thought. I'm not saying we should change it though. User: Jason Garrick

  • Even better is that it's Dale's ear. She's not what you'd call "well-groomed". :) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:26, 8 April 2007 (EDT)

Has there been an instance where he's heard a sound with a pitch beyond that of normal hearing? Even a tuning fork puts out sound within the range of human hearing, it was just that it was so close and so loud (to him) that it was painful. (Admin 18:23, 15 May 2007 (EDT))

  • The tuning fork is the only thing that's close to upper normal pitch range, and heartbeats is what's closest to the lower pitch range. What could really tell us his range is if someone blew a dog whistle in his presence (for higher-than-normal-pitch hearing), or if a parade of elephants walked by (for lower-than-normal-pitch hearing).--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:35, 15 May 2007 (EDT)
    • Yeah, since both tuning forks and heartbeats are within the human range I think it may be presumptuous to say he can hear any pitch. He can definitely hear very faint sounds that are within the human range, but I don't think we've seen instances like your dog whistle example where he's heard sounds outside of the human frequency range. (Admin 18:38, 15 May 2007 (EDT))
      • Dale is a girl...? --(. .') 12:52, 5 March 2008 (EST)
        • Yes, but Sylar has the ability now and Sylar's a guy--thus the use of masculine pronouns.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:32, 5 March 2008 (EST)

Opening Sentence

I think the opening sentence is a bit strange "Enhanced hearing is the ability to hear any sound at any volume, even over vast distances" - I don't think we've seen any evidence that Dale/Sylar could hear every sound there is at the moment. It hugely enhances your normal hearing capabilities (that's obvious!), but I don't think it expands to everything there is - I don't think Dale could have heard a butterfly's wingbeat on the opposite end of the planet, for example. I didn't want to change it without discussing it, however, as I haven't been here long! :)--IotV 16:46, 3 January 2009 (GMT)

  • I agree with you, I think it's a bit misleading. If you'd like to change the wording so it's better clarified, feel free. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:14, 3 January 2009 (EST)
    • Thanks. Any ideas? ... is the abilty to hear beyond normal limits? IotV 17.16, 3 January 2009 (GMT)
      • That works. Why don't you try changing it to something that you feel is a better description, and then somebody else might come along and make a tweak to it, too. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:20, 3 January 2009 (EST)
OK. Thanks for the help! IotV 17.22, 3 January 2009 (GMT)

Change image back

  • Why is the image Sylar? Shouldn't we use the image of the original possessor?--NiveKJ13 (talk2me) 13:12, 7 January 2009 (EST)
    • It's a better display of the ability.--Citizen 13:15, 7 January 2009 (EST)

  • Since Sylar's AT was in Building 26, it should still have said "enhanced hearing" listed for this ability, hence, this name is now canon. -- Psilaq R.- \m/ -_- \m/- 21:03, 17 March 2009 (EDT)

Possible Name

Now I know that Wikipedia isn't the best source for information, but they have this name, "Clairaudience", hearing/listening. I found it at Clairvoyance under Other related terms. Could that be a possibility?--Catalyst · Talk · HL 12:49, 20 August 2009 (EDT) I was thinking that i well. 50000JH

  • But enhanced hearing is a canon name. Green.gif AltesUTC CH
    • Plus, Clairaudience doesn't really fit the ability, by no means it allows you to hear the dead or other people's thoughts. It's not the same thing. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 16:51, 20 August 2009 (EDT)
