I like

  • Nice page. I think it might be better with a shorter title, though.--  Lost Soul   talk  contribs  03:47, 18 November 2007 (EST)
  • I like the idea for the page, but before it comes over to the main namespace, I think it should be converted into a list: "List of abilities with multiple users". That also means the episodic history would be dropped. Some of the quotes don't really illustrate the concept that there are abilities held by multiple people--in fact none of them do except maybe Sandra and Noah's quote about West having the same ability as Nathan. Bottom line, I like it, but I would convert it fully to have the same layout and format as the other lists. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:31, 6 December 2007 (EST)
    • Agreed, I think it being a list would be perfect. --Bob (talk) 03:44, 6 December 2007 (EST)
      • I'm having trouble figuring out the layout, but I'm working on that. I'm not really good at pulling out quotes like others, but I felt the four I included all pertained to this page.
        1. Claude's empath quote was the first indication ever that there might be "powers with multiple users" (other than Chandra's journal of course).
          • But the quote doesn't directly illustrate it and seems really out of place on the page.
            • I guess not, but I found it interesting. It may one day be re-included in the note section if explained.
        2. Isaac and Noah's dialogue is an early indication when the producers were still going with the one man = one power mantra.
          • Who says they had that mantra? And how does the quote support the idea that there are people with the same powers?
            • No one said that specifically. The quote implies that "an invisible man" automatically equals just Claude, at least to Bennet. This opposes the idea that there are people with the same powers, leading one to think that the producers changed their mind.
        3. Bob specifically addresses the fact that both Matt and Maury "have the same abilities."
          • That's a good quote.
        4. And Sandra and Noah's cutesy little West-Noah comparison.--Tim Thomason 21:27, 6 December 2007 (EST)
        • I removed the quotes, but some of them (and others not included, like whatever Maury said in his revelation that he was a telepath) could be re-added to the page if necessary.--Tim Thomason 22:00, 6 December 2007 (EST)
  • Could someone fix the table widths for the second one? It's cutting off the episode name for me.--Bob (talk) 11:45, 15 December 2007 (EST)
    • Which episode name? It looks fine to me, but I'm using IE6.0.--MiamiVolts (talk) 12:12, 15 December 2007 (EST)
    • It looks better on my browser. Does it look okay on yours, Bob? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:56, 15 December 2007 (EST)

Move

I like the page, and I think that "Abilities with multiple users" is a good choice of name. I think the page is ready to move. I don't mind a few quotes being re-added, but I don't think they're necessary.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:49, 14 December 2007 (EST)

  • Same here, however I think the article should be named "Ability duplicity". --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 23:57, 14 December 2007 (EST)
    • I'm fine with either name.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:59, 14 December 2007 (EST)
      • "Ability duplicity" sounds like a power. I actually think it should be made into a list and be called "list of abilities with multiple users". -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:56, 15 December 2007 (EST)
        • I added the "lists" category inside the nousercat template, so it will automatically get added when the article is moved. I am fine with "List of abilities with multiple users" as the name, with a redirect of "Abilities with multiple users" or vice versa.--MiamiVolts (talk) 10:55, 28 December 2007 (EST)

Mediumship

The interview with R.D. Hall confirmed that both Linda and Ida had this ability. What am I missing?--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:04, 7 July 2008 (EDT)

  • Read the very first sentence of the article very carefully. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 22:17, 7 July 2008 (EDT)
    • Ah, stolen abilities don't count in the multiple list.--MiamiVolts (talk) 02:43, 9 July 2008 (EDT)
      • Sorry, i'd hate to bring up old convos but, i'm not totally clear on how it works. Sylar and Arthur stole abilities and they have names in the second column, so why can't Linda have shared mediumship...and if this is the case then shouldn't Arthur have shred Empathic mimicry.--Anthony Gooch 22:02, 15 February 2009 (EST)
        • I agree. If Arthur, Sylar, and Peter are listed in the third column (which is titled "Absorbed and demonstrated by"), then Linda absolutely fits there just as much as the others listed. I'll add her and update the heading so it doesn't read "Aside from mimicked and acquired abilities" since mimicked and acquired abilities are very much a part of this page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:05, 15 February 2009 (EST)
          • Ah, I think I understand now. Before I added mediumship, every other ability listed was held by two people naturally. So since mediumship was only held by one person naturally, it wasn't included on the list. That's also why an ability like telekinesis wasn't added here until Misha displayed it--because only one person (Brian Davis) had the ability naturally. That "rule" wasn't very clear. And since there is a column for duplicated abilities, we should either go full force or not at all with that column. I'd rather just go full force. If others disagree, let's discuss it. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:10, 15 February 2009 (EST)
            • Is it ok that i added empathic mimicry and poison emission :)--Anthony Gooch 22:23, 15 February 2009 (EST)
              • Yeah, I added a bunch of others that would be considered missing under the new definition of abilities with multiple users (that is, defining a "user" as somebody who uses the ability, and not necessarily somebody who has the ability naturally). I had forgotten about empathic mimicry. Good call. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:42, 15 February 2009 (EST)

Santiago

Does he really have super speed, or is it just an off-shoot of his ability, which I believe is similar to that of Kaito Nakamura? Tristan0709 04:17, 14 November 2008 (EST)

  • Just so people casually reading this don't get confused, Kaito only has an ability in the deleted scenes of Four Months Later..., not in the canon of the show. As for Santiago, it sure looks like they're going for two powers. On his character description at NBC.com, it says "he discovers his extraordinary gifts of Accelerated Probability and Super Speed." His Create Your Hero profile says, "He has the power of accelerated probability. Not only that but he realizes he can run super fast!" Normally I don't like to take NBC's descriptions as scripture, but multiple sources and webisodic evidence all point to two powers. I'm wary, but it looks like that's where they're headed. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 08:14, 14 November 2008 (EST)
    • Hmm....it might be one of those two-in-one power things, like Claire's blood and Time and space manipulation. I wasn't suggesting that it should say he and kaito should be on the list, rather that i was likening their abilities to eachother. Tristan0709 00:44, 17 November 2008 (EST)
      • Gotcha. Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how these powers get played out over the next few weeks... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:16, 17 November 2008 (EST)

Spacing

Does anyone know how to manipulate the widths of the columns so that there's enough room on one line for the episode references? It really doesn't look good having an open parenthesis on one line and the rest on the folowing line. --Stevehim 03:03, 17 November 2008 (EST)

One user + mimicked now permited?

When that change become OK?--SacValleyDweller (talk) 00:51, 16 February 2009 (EST)

  • a few hours ago. i think the page desciption was also changed to fit this.--Anthony Gooch 03:26, 16 February 2009 (EST)
    • Yeah, that wasn't allowed before, I remember people adding duplicated abilities only for them to be removed. I thought this page was meant only for those who didn't copy/steal the ability, the other column serving only as a reference for those who did. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 13:41, 16 February 2009 (EST)

Sylar has Tom's ability...

Why are these absorptions being added? The category is "Absorbed and demonstrated." Anything Sylar/Peter hasn't demonstrated shouldn't be listed, right?--Riddler 19:35, 8 June 2009 (EDT)

  • Things work different for Sylar, we know for a fact he has the ability once he gets it, we don't have that certainty with Peter's ability, he's been exposed to many abilities he never displayed, so we don't know if he actually had them. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 19:38, 8 June 2009 (EDT)
    • The point is the category still says "Absorbed and demonstrated".--Riddler 01:38, 9 June 2009 (EDT)
      • For Sylar, since it's a process that leaves no doubt he got the ability, he doesn't need to demonstrate he has the ability, if anything, we should drop the demonstrated and consider Sylar acquired abilities (even the ones he didn't show) and Peter's confirmed mimicked/replicated abilities. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 16:28, 9 June 2009 (EDT)
        • We would have to drop the "demonstrated" if we list them.--Riddler 21:49, 10 June 2009 (EDT)
  • I don't have an opinion on any of this. I think we just need to decide whether the column is "absorbed and demonstrated", "absorbed or demonstrated", just "absorbed", or just "demonstrated". (I know the recent edits look like I added the information that sparked this discussion, but in reality, I first removed a bunch of stuff in an attempt to fix a problem with the navbar. Problem solved, by the way.) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:56, 10 June 2009 (EDT)

Linking

Can someone enlighten me on why there seems to be this dispute on whether the links for episodes/graphic novels/webisodes/iStories should be written or put in the page via template? Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 09:50, 21 July 2009 (EDT)

  • I had to change the templates because too many were used, meaning the navs at the bottom weren't working. So to fix the page I needed to change some of the episode templates to links so the navs would work and to combat this happening as soon as someone added something new, I changed all of the unconfirmed. --posted by Laughingdevilboy

Talk 13:51, 21 July 2009 (EDT)

    • Why would those templates make the navbars stop working? It makes no sense. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 18:45, 21 July 2009 (EDT)
      • I don't know, but it seems too many templates are used so the templates right at the bottom do not work, Ryan is also at a loss and didn't realise this was the problem till I told him. --posted by Laughingdevilboy
