I added the tally, since I had already made it for personal use. If the general opinion is that it should be deleted I don't mind. (After all, not everyone can be a statistics geek like me ;) ). [[User:Pierre|Pierre]] 20:37, 15 July 2008 (EDT)

Number of Appearances

Hana is now tied with Mr. Bennet, with 9 each. -Lөvөl 02:34, 21 March 2007 (EDT)

  • Yes. I have some updating to do with the trivia. By the way, Bennet still gets the no-prize for being referenced in the most GNs--Hana talks about him in The Lonestar File, though he doesn't appear. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:16, 21 March 2007 (EDT)

Format for appearances

Appearances should be for the amount of novels the character has appeared. For instance, Ren was in Betty, Part 1, Betty, Part 2, and Betty, Part 3 so far. So under the heading for Betty, Part 3, it should say "Ren (3)". Since Betty, Part 3 is the redhead nurse's first appearance, she should only be at 1, and her name should be bold. It should say "Redhead nurse (1)". Additionally, this page lists the order that each character appears . For instance, the opening shots are of Ren, so Ren's name should be first. This is not an alphabetical list.... Hope that clears up any misunderstandings. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:17, 10 July 2007 (EDT)

  • Thanks, that was previously not clear to me.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:19, 10 July 2007 (EDT)

Groups

Groups are kind of that hazy line between characters and not characters. Up to now, we've generally been treating them as not characters, and I agree with that. I removed them from this list of characters because it'd be really odd to have every instance of a group on here. We've only had D.L.'s crew and the Skyhawk crew on here, so I removed them. (I switched D.L.'s crew to their actual names, since we have articles about each. I also removed them from Snapshots since a photo is not an appearance.) I think that not including the groups is a better way to go. It's certainly easier than trying to figure out every time the FBI or the CIA appears, or what to do when only part of a group appears. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:04, 21 August 2007 (EDT)

What to include and exclude

Okay, groups are not included, per above. What about minor, cameo appearances? This doesn't happen often, but I mean like in the front page of Monsters ([1]). If that was included, then Niki, Jessica, Isaac, Peter, Nathan, and Claire would get an extra appearance. Is this not included because:

  • a) It is a title page thing (not sure why that would matter)
  • b) Most are from scenes in the show, so they fall under the repeating scene rule adapted for episodes.
  • c) They are simply decoratorive, and have no bearing on the story about to be told (regarding Mohinder).
  • d) 2 or 3 of the above.

Links from GNs

This page is only linked from talk pages and a few other random pages mostly in notes and trivia, while episode appearances are included on the episode page, shouldn't there at least be a link on the GN pages? -Lөvөl 03:09, 20 February 2008 (EST)

  • You mean only to add a link to this article on each of the graphic novels, maybe after the image category link in the See Also? Currently, the episodes each display a listing of characters that appear, and also have a link to the master listing but the graphic novels don't have such a listing.--MiamiVolts (talk) 03:44, 20 February 2008 (EST)
    • Yes. When I added a link on Graphic Novel:War Buddies, Part 7, Ryan removed it. I would find it extremely useful to have this linked to from the GN pages. -Lөvөl 03:39, 22 April 2008 (EDT)
      • Just a link, or a section listing all the characters who appear in the graphic novel? Would there be an easier way to do it--like going through a template which already exists on each GN page--rather than making 80+ edits? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:35, 25 April 2008 (EDT)

It really bugs me not to have appearance lists in the actual GN articles; quite often I'm looking to see what characters appeared in a specific novel. I wouldn't mind to add an appearance list to each GN article. Any objections if I get around to it now? Pierre 09:14, 15 July 2008 (EDT)

  • If we do that we should do it the same way we did List of character appearances by episode where we have the appearances within a template so that we can just transclude them on List of character appearances by graphic novel as well as on the graphic novel article itself (see Powerless for an example of how we have the episode appearances included on the episode articles). I think it's a good idea. (Admin 09:44, 15 July 2008 (EDT))
    • I see you're already on it. heh. Nice work. :) (Admin 09:45, 15 July 2008 (EDT))
      • I've created templates for the first 12 GN, for everyone to get the idea. I'm however thinking that I might wanna wait until I do anything more, in case we agree not to make the change. Or is it safe to get trough with it? Pierre 09:55, 15 July 2008 (EDT)
        • If they're in the same format as the episode ones I don't see any reason not to do it. It's a good change and makes the graphic novel list format match the episode list. (Admin 10:01, 15 July 2008 (EDT))
          • Sure they are in the same format as the episode appearance lists (and the webisode ditto). Personally I don't see any reasons why not make the change, but I was thinking that maybe there have been any previous discussion, which I'm unaware about, leading up to the current format. Pierre 10:08, 15 July 2008 (EDT)
            • Thanks, I have wanted this. It doesn't look like you are editing the graphic novel pages yet, so I thought I would do some. It looks like the table conflicts with the sidebar so we may need to put it lower on the page, unless someone knows how to fix it. I don't remember why we have had them as one word, but if there are spaces it makes it a lot easier to include on a page with {{Appearances{{subst:PAGENAME}}}}. -Lөvөl 12:16, 15 July 2008 (EDT)
              • Oh... okay - So that would be [[Template:Appearances History of a Secret]] etc? Or [[Template:Appearances Graphic Novel:History of a Secret]]? Or what? Pierre 12:58, 15 July 2008 (EDT)
                • [[Template:AppearancesHistory of a Secret]]. Does anyone know why we did it the other way? -Lөvөl 13:05, 15 July 2008 (EDT)
                  • OK - will go with it for the final templates. Pierre 13:09, 15 July 2008 (EDT)
                  • I don't think there was a specific reason it was done the other way. The idea of using a variable might just not have been thought of at the time so the person originally setting them up probably just went for a template name without spaces. (Admin 13:11, 15 July 2008 (EDT))
  • So - the templates are done. Looking at them, I'm not sure I like the two column layout... On one side, it makes the list considerately shorter, but on the other hand, it doesn't look that good. Would it be better to have 1 column lists? Pierre 14:06, 15 July 2008 (EDT)

Tally

I added the tally, since I had already made it for personal use. If the general opinion is that it should be deleted I don't mind. (After all, not everyone can be a statistics geek like me ;) ). Pierre 20:37, 15 July 2008 (EDT)
