Source/Explanation
Scientific description for glowing object.

Reason for name

  • See here for a good primer on what luminescence is. Light generation and illumination don't accurately describe the ability as those terms don't imply that the light emission is coming from all over Howard's body. Luminescence implies his whole body, not just his hands and not just as a ball of light next to him.--MiamiVolts (talk) 06:02, 26 February 2008 (EST)
  • The terms used in the graphic novel are "I am his light", "shall be blinded", "I am the light of the world". I don't know if that is official enough discription, we could have it simply be "Light". Luminescence is a scientific term for it. -Lөvөl 12:12, 26 February 2008 (EST)
    • There's nothing that says the term has to be scientific. However, I personally think "luminescence" is acceptable. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:48, 26 February 2008 (EST)
      • I agree. Luminescence seems like the right term for now to describe the ability. (Admin 12:57, 26 February 2008 (EST))
    • Or maybe bioluminescence. Watchmaker 21:38, 26 February 2008 (EST)
      • I was thinking of something like "Light emission" but this seems much better. --  Seclusion  talk / contribs 22:11, 26 February 2008 (EST)
        • Adding "bio" to the ability name would be speculative since we can't be certain as to whether his ability can be "extended" (if it can be extended to non-living things, then "bio" is incorrect). I noted that it can't really be determined whether the clothes he is wearing are glowing or if the glow is so bright. However, if his ability works similar to D.L.'s and Hiro's, he could be able to extend it to someone or something else via touching.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:56, 26 February 2008 (EST)
          • I agree, I think "luminescence" is very concise and doesn't pass into speculation. (Admin 23:59, 26 February 2008 (EST))
            • I'm really not a fan of kinesis', but I really liked Photokinesis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBXbCd9keAE =[ --Riddler 22:33, 27 February 2008 (EST)
            • The newest Behind the Eclipse refers to Howard Grigsby as the bioluminescent man, the questioner referred to it as that but the person answering didn't correct that.
              • Just because the answerer doesn't correct it doesn't confirm the name at all. It's still speculative, and should remain as luminescence. Sincerely, Thrashmeister [ U | T | C ] 11:14, 23 November 2008 (EST)

Girl from AT Map with ability.

A while ago when I was looking at the AT map there was a verified tip on another person with this ability. It was a girl who was listed as living in St. Pete, FL. The tip also had a pretty cool picture that came with it where balls of light were floating around her. At the time I saw it I went on my way thinking someone else from here would see it, but I guess no one did. I know the AT Map doesn't seem to be working right now, but once it does someone needs to grab the info off of it. So keep an eye out, because it would make for great additional info on this ability's page. --OutbackZack 13:35, 8 December 2008 (EST)OutbackZack

Bump to stimulate discussion. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 15:41, 21 December 2008 (EST)
  • Her name is Dee H. The AT map isn't working for me so I can't get the image. I don't know if we have a policy for adding people from the AT map to powers pages--I think this is the first person we've seen from the AT map who has an ability we've seen before. I'll call it unconfirmed on this page, since that's what we did with the interactive map. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:18, 21 December 2008 (EST)
    • I'm not used to uploading images in this wiki, but here is she, it'll need to be reup cause my image editing skills don't exist. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 18:06, 21 December 2008 (EST)
      • I think is should be confirm. Only the writers or whoever works for NBC has the ability to upload a verified tips and update them. So since there's a picture of her showing her ability she should be confirmed. I think that they had plan to use her in a graphic novel (hence the photo), but never gotten around to it. --OutbackZack 01:42, 1 May 2009 (EDT)
        • Bump. I want to give another chance to get some input before I make some changes. --OutbackZack 21:24, 9 May 2009 (EDT)

Dee H confirmed?

I would think Dee H is a confirmed user of this ability since we have an image of her using said ability. However, someone says that Heroes Evolution isn't canon, but I thought it was. Can someone better explain this to me?--OutbackZack 11:19, 2 December 2009 (EST)

  • Let me add on, the naming conventions lists Heroes Evolutions has a the same level of canon as graphic novels. So I'm further confused as to why Dee H wouldn't be considered confirmed.--OutbackZack 11:21, 2 December 2009 (EST)
    • I was the one who said it isn't canon. Something is only canon if it has appeared in the show, not another branch of Heroes. The Graphic Novels aren't canon and neither are the webisodes or Heroes Evolutions. At the moment, we can list Howard Grigsby as a confirmed user, due to him being in the GN's,but as Dee H hasn't appeared at all we can only list her as unconfirmed. -- Leckie -- Talk 11:26, 2 December 2009 (EST)
      • But the graphic novels and Heroes evolutions are on the same level of canon. Also, they're right up there with the wedisodes. We have an image of Dee using the ability. Even if it came from the tracker map it's no different than recording the information as if it came from a graphic novel. She has appeared. One picture of her back, I know, lame picture, but it was the picture attached to her tracker profile nonetheless. For you to convince me that is image doesn't justify it you need to explain to me why that said image shouldn't be used as a reason to confirm her beside saying it's not canon. It's near-canon, and we always used near-canon. --OutbackZack 11:30, 2 December 2009 (EST)
        • That's correct; we have a visual demonstration of this ability, so it's confirmed. I'm not sure why she's on the unconfirmed section.--Referos 11:46, 2 December 2009 (EST)
          • Am I mistaken, or was this part of the map that anyone could add to? I'm pretty sure I have a character listed on the original map. --Ricard Desi (t,c) 12:59, 2 December 2009 (EST)
            • Everyone could add a character there, but this was one that NBC added, their tips were the "confirmed ones". Red dots were tips people added, green dots were "confirmed" tips (Company confirmed AFAIK) and blue dots were assignments. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 13:39, 2 December 2009 (EST)
              • Was it definitely NBC that added it? If so then it is not cannon at all; NBC are not official Heroes workers. --mc_hammark 13:42, 2 December 2009 (EST)
                • By NBC I meant the staff involved in making the info for the map, I don't know if they were simply people who were told to put something there, or if it was people related to Heroes writers. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 13:49, 2 December 2009 (EST)
                  • Either way it was approved by NBC and Heroes seeing how it was a confirmed tip. The map was part of the assignment tracker site. Otherwise Ryan wouldn't have added the info about her on this page. --OutbackZack 15:08, 2 December 2009 (EST)
                    • The assignment tracker map allowed fans to create characters and powers, and sometimes a fan creation would be chosen by the staff to become "confirmed". It's essentially like the crossovers from Heroes: Survival. Since Dee H had a confirmed tip, she's canon and must be added, and since we have a visual demonstration of she using her ability, she's a confirmed holder of luminescence.--Referos 17:01, 2 December 2009 (EST)
                      • Really? From what I remember, when the AT map first appeared, it already had blue and green dots, those weren't red dots which were promoted, at least I don't remember anyone saying something like that back then. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 17:20, 2 December 2009 (EST)
                        • Yes, in the beginning, the only green dots were created by the staff. But later, red dots created by fans could be promoted to green. For instance, in this 9th wonders topic, a fan claims to be the author of the metallic sweat woman's tip (which is a confirmed tip).--Referos 17:58, 2 December 2009 (EST)
                          • I'd say since she is a unique case in having a picture on the AT, she should be confirmed. Also, if she is placed under confirmed, would we need a page for her? We have a image, and some background info. That would be enough to deserve a page.--Ratclaws 18:41, 2 December 2009 (EST)
                            • Agreed. Also, her tip has always been green. She randomly popped up right before the map went offline the first time. A few of us knew about her, but didn't get the chance to grab her info. Then when the map came online again we acted on it fast. Like I said, Ryan added her to the page, so he's saying it's official content. He just didn't know to confirmed her or not. To further add, once the dot goes green it became official content. It's like the HS crossovers. --OutbackZack 03:01, 3 December 2009 (EST)
                              • I don't see any reason why she wouldn't be confirmed. She is--and always has been--a green point on the map, so she's a "verified tip". We have an image of her using her ability. I don't think we need anything more than that. I don't think we need to create a page for her though...but that's just my personal opinion. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 04:32, 5 December 2009 (EST)
                                • If a page of her was made, it would rather small. I do remember her place of location being St. Petersburg, FL. (Remember, because I lived in the area). I think just adding her power's limits to this page would be both just fine and rather note worthy. --OutbackZack 04:35, 5 December 2009 (EST)
