Inconsistent naming conventions...do we need to stop and rethink, before making a mess
I've noticed that a new standard is emerging, "Hiro Nakamura (future) (II)".  While this numerical suffix is a good idea, I think we should be very careful and consistent and be sure to apply it as each differing future timeline is shown and differentiated.
For example, right now we are calling the Season 3 Future Peter and Future Hiro Peter Petrelli (future) (II) and Hiro Nakamura (future) (II).  But that is not correct (numerically).  They both should be (III).
Following is, I believe the correct future and distinct timelines differentiated:
*1. Hiro Nakamura (future) (I) -introduced in Hiros and most noted from Five Years Gone
*2. Hiro Nakamura (future) (II) -the next different future-hiro, from the GNs String Theory and Walls 1&2, who was in a different timeline.
*3. Hiro Nakamura (future) (III) -the newest different future-hiro from Season 3.
Same for Peter:
*1. Peter Petrelli (future) (I) -introduced in Five Years Gone.
*2. Peter Petrelli (future) (II) -a different future-Peter, introduced in Walls 1&2.
*3. Peter Petrelli (future) (III) -another different future-Peter, from Season 3.
If we don't discuss and fix this inconsistency now, it'll create a much bigger mess later as more future Peter/Hiro stuff is added; and it will effectively strand the 'String Theory/Walls' future Hiro/Peter characters outside of their proper numerical order of appearance.
And there may be other 'future-character' difference/appearance order we need to consider besides these two; they were just the ones that stuck out the quickest to my memory.
Hope I've explained my concern clearly enough. <small>--HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 09/23/2008 12:35 (EST)</small>

Just a quick bit of help for anybody who might be interested. When typing a future character's name, you can use the parentheses to help you. For instance, rather than typing Peter, you can just type Peter (future). The piping will automatically strip the "(future)" part and will just leave Peter. Actually, this applies to anything with a parenthetical title ( Homecoming (event)→Homecoming ) or a comma ( Las Vegas, NV→Las Vegas ). Of course you can still pipe and link however you want, I just want to make it easier on those that might be typing future characters' names a lot. :) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:32, 2 May 2007 (EDT)

  • FYI same trick can be used to strip out namespaces easily, too. (Episode:Genesis→Genesis) (Admin 20:43, 2 May 2007 (EDT))

Should the Moab Federal Penitentiary Response Team be added to this page? Harter 19:52, 14 May 2007 (EDT)

Another portal

Why don't we have another portal of future characters for the Virus outbreak timeline? Future Angela and the new Virus characters seem out of place here.--Citizen 19:14, 6 November 2007

  • You'd rather have a portal of just five people? This portal is named "future characters" and the characters from Out of Time and Quarantine are future characters. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:31, 7 November 2007 (EST)
    • But these new future characters are not in the same future as the future characters from Five Years Gone.--Citizen 14:11, 7 November 2007
      • I agree with Citizen, the Virus Pandemic is this season's Bomb. It is separate from the Bomb (and likely happened because the Bomb was averted) and as such needs to be separated from the Bomb future--SacValleyDweller (talk) 18:24, 7 November 2007 (EST)
        • But who says that this portal is only for characters from a specific future? If we did that, we'd probably have to have another portal for the characters from Walls, and possibly another for the characters from String Theory. Yuck. The portal only says "Future Characters", and all the characters in the portal are characters from possible futures. Besides, even Dark Future talks about all the different possible futures in one article. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:27, 8 November 2007 (EST)
          • I suppose if we come to a point where we have multiple versions of the same character from different futures (an altogether different post-Virus Future Hiro, say) and it became cumbersome/confusing to have them on the same character page, then it might make sense to either split or subdivide this portal by timeline. Until then, though, I don't see any need to split it. The future after the explosion and the future after the virus are indeed different futures, but the characters from both fall within the rubric of "future characters" the same way that Molly and the Crane boy are both minors, even though one is a future character and one isn't.--Hardvice (talk) 21:35, 8 November 2007 (EST)
            • However, the case can be made that there should be a Season One future characters portal and a Season Two future characters portal. That's how all the other character portals are done. Currently, the Season Two future characters on this page are only available by accessing the Season One character portals. That strikes me as incorrect. At the very least, we need to add this portal into both the Season One and Season Two character portals, like Animals.--Hardvice (talk) 22:09, 8 November 2007 (EST)
              • Good point about adding it to both S1 and S2 portals. I'll take care of that now. I don't mind making a split, but don't like the idea of making the split based on which future it is, especially at this point in the game. Splitting by season might be a good idea, but I still don't think we're at that point. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:15, 8 November 2007 (EST)
                • Definitely the best solution for now. A portal with 5 characters would seem kind of lonely.--Hardvice (talk) 22:33, 8 November 2007 (EST)

GN characters

In all other cases GN characters are omitted from the series proper portals. Any reason why it isn't so in this case? Pierre 13:36, 28 July 2008 (EDT)

  • That's not true. Animals is also merged, and the reason for both being all-inclusive is cause there's so few of them.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:52, 28 July 2008 (EDT)
    • True - and I don't like that either. Inconstancy, inconstancy... Pierre 14:24, 31 July 2008 (EDT)
    • Since there is different navigation bars for the future characters of the show and of the GNs, and there already is a portal for the GN Future characters, I put them out of the portal, but included a link to Portal:Future Graphic Novel Characters. Pierre 14:36, 31 July 2008 (EDT)

Subheadings to delineate futures?

If this portal is going to be the sole portal for Future characters, might it be a good idea to put each set of future characters under a heading within this page?--SacValleyDweller (talk) 14:34, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

  • I think that may be a good idea. -Lөvөl 12:46, 31 July 2008 (EDT)

  • 1. Hiro Nakamura (future) (I) -introduced in Hiros and most noted from Five Years Gone
  • 2. Hiro Nakamura (future) (II) -the next different future-hiro, from the GNs String Theory and Walls 1&2, who was in a different timeline.
  • 3. Hiro Nakamura (future) (III) -the newest different future-hiro from Season 3.

Same for Peter:

  • 1. Peter Petrelli (future) (I) -introduced in Five Years Gone.
  • 2. Peter Petrelli (future) (II) -a different future-Peter, introduced in Walls 1&2.

--HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 09/23/2008 12:35 (EST)
