I added Gannon Car Rentals here, even though it's not really a real-world reference. Then again, neither is the Dragon of Kiso Mountain, "Yatta!", or Takezo Kensei, for that matter. Not really another spot for them, and not really enough to make another portal...yet. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:41, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

  • Well seeing as Lost has the Gannon Car Rental brochures, it might be appropriate to add it to the "References to Other Works" portal. --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 15:48, 9 July 2007 (EDT)
    • Yeah, I thought about that, but the article is about Gannon Car Rentals, not about Lost. It was also on Nip/Tuck. In actuality, Gannon is one of those corporation names reserved for use on television, kind of like 555 is reserved as a prefix for television shows. Using Gannon pamphlets is not a reference to Lost (as has been stated by both Tim Kring and Damon Lindelof numerous times). -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:56, 9 July 2007 (EDT)
      • Heh, not directly related but do you know if 555-5555 reserved for tv taxi companies?--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:59, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

Maslow

Abraham Maslow

  • The Abraham Maslow article is going to be deleted, but it's got an entry here on the portal. I don't usually update the portals, so what's the strategy for removing an item while still keeping the portal organized properly? Could a PortalMaster remove it from the portal cleanly for me? :) (Admin 02:20, 4 September 2007 (EDT))
    • Oh, I was under a mistaken impression about how the images were organized. I should have just looked at the source first instead. Thanks, MiamiVolts. :) (Admin 02:26, 4 September 2007 (EDT))
      • You're welcome. Just remove the entry, and cycle down the list, trying to keep the same number of entries per row. For the bottom row, you try to make sure the entries are centered if there's less than a full row. Also, a small trick is that it sometimes looks better to decrease the # of columns by one or more to increase the amount of entries in the final row.--MiamiVolts (talk) 02:31, 4 September 2007 (EDT)
    • "PortalMaster". Heh. You should write for Hiro's blog. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:40, 4 September 2007 (EDT)

Rename

Could we possibly rename this portal to something else and many perhaps splitting some of them apart? Gannon Car Rentals is on here and isn't part of the "real world". There are also groups that are real but placed under groups (FBI and CIA for example). --Pinkkeith 11:29, 23 November 2007 (EST)

  • I would be very much in favor of splitting this page. What do you have in mind for subdivisions? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:53, 24 November 2007 (EST)
    • I think we could have Portal:Real-world groups and organisations as one sub-division (but obviously have a shorter and snappier title), and that would include AA, CIA, FBI, etc. And then maybe Portal:Religious something or other, for Judaism, and Bushido, etc. That's all I got. :)--  Lost Soul   talk  contribs  04:42, 25 November 2007 (EST)
      • Check out my suggestions here. It includes a way to deal with religious something or others and with organizations. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:38, 25 November 2007 (EST)
