Info

  • Got some info from NBC about a character they're introducing as part of an affiliation with Habbo. The profile information was provided to me by NBC so it should check out, though it may require some reformatting to fit in with the rest of our articles. It looks like the character will be mostly or entirely within Habbo's online world. From what I'm told NBC expects to start promoting this affiliation later today or tomorrow, so we were given the info ahead of time. :) (Admin 14:13, 26 January 2009 (EST))
    • Looks cool, though I doubt I'll be stopping by Habbo anytime soon. Does the profile you were given say Syn is unemployed (you put her parents in the occupation field, which I corrected)?--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:33, 26 January 2009 (EST)
      • Just checking before others do....but how is this new ability different that what Eden did with her persuasion? Both ladies used their ability to make other people do their biding. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/26/2009 14:40 (EST)
        • I think the difference is in how it worked. Eden's ability was simply persuasion, however Syn's seems to allow her to manipulate the feelings of others. Like some other abilities so far they're two different abilities that allow them to accomplish similar things. (e.g. Persuasion and Telepathy). This is an instance though where the source explicitly names the ability so we're not trying to figure out if this is actually someone else with an existing ability or not. (Admin 14:50, 26 January 2009 (EST))
          • Actually, it is different than Eden cause Eden can tell people what to do and they have to do it. Syn manipulates a person's emotions such that they want to react in a certain manner; they don't necessarily accomplish a certain task. Syn sounds like she could do very well playing cupid... touch two people and make them at least temporarily feel sexually attracted to or feel love for each other.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:56, 26 January 2009 (EST)
      • Oops, sorry. Based on the profile she's in high school. (Admin 14:43, 26 January 2009 (EST))
        • Ah, okay. So she's a high school student that is taking some college courses to get ahead. Cool.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:56, 26 January 2009 (EST)
          • That's how I interpreted it. If that seems speculative based on the profile they provided it could be removed. (Admin 14:59, 26 January 2009 (EST))
            • Well, I wasn't sure how to interpret it. The fact that the profile calls the college courses preparatory seems to indicate that she isn't a college student yet when she takes the courses. However, that whole sentence is in the past tense, so I was wondering how relevant it is.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:27, 26 January 2009 (EST)
  • BTW, how are we going to consider her canocity? I mean, if Syn appears in Habbo Hotel, are we going to consider that Habbo Hotel is a physical place in the show's universe? What about the precognitive paintings that appeared as part of the event? Apparently these paintings show things that happened in Habbo Hotel and not in the Heroes-verse, yet Syn, a Heroes character, is aware of them. Can we do something about it, or would it be better to simply consider it a bizarre case of the fourth wall being broken, like Evsdropr being aware of the graphic novels?--Referos 16:10, 26 January 2009 (EST)
    • I'm not sure exactly how it will work out, however based on the low (if not nonexistent) canonicity of anything this character does outside of the info NBC provided I would expect most things to remain confined to this article. Unless, for instance, they include her in a graphic novel or something. (Admin 16:17, 26 January 2009 (EST))
      • I looked at Syn as a teenager with a Habbo account. The avatar in Habbo is not Syn. It would be like Claire or Micah with an avatar in the Habbo world. Speaking of Habbo, I'd like to see a Habbo page much like the mySpace page or any of the pages where we can document the various messages like how Syn contacted Habbo or the note that was found in her room. From the looks of things, they have already started taking the pages down (like the original one about Meeting Syn). I have it saved though if this does pan out. Heroes360 00:07, 28 January 2009 (EST)
        • For now, it's the best (and only) picture we have of Syn. I think a Habbo page would be a good idea for things like messages. Syn's history should stay on this page. And since we haven't seen her power in use and don't really have any examples of it, it too should stay on this page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:57, 28 January 2009 (EST)

Character History

Syn Anders is a 16 year old teenage girl and her ability is Empathic Manipulation. Unlike Peter Petrelli who mimics and/or duplicates the abilities of other evolved humans, she can manipulate the emotions after physically touching anyone, persuading them to do what she wants. Also different from Guillame (the Haitian's father) who can introduce positive or negative sensations in other people, Syn manipulates emotions and can control the volume and intensity of those emotions as well.

This ability can obviously go either way. She can make them feel joy, which causes it spread to others. She can make them feel sympathetic and help someone out in need. On the other hand, she can make people angry to incite a riot. She can make them feel depression, so they commit suicide. She can make them so frightened, they cry like a baby.

As mentioned above, Syn can also control the volume of emotions. She can make someone feel extreme happiness and suddenly be moved to tears of joy...or furious anger, causing the heart to race and, if pushed, to explode.

Until now, she has only really used her ability to amuse herself in those long winters. An extra smile here to stay up a little later or a few more tears there to get some sympathy. Sure, this can simply be called manipulation, but the difference is, it actually works. However, so far she cannot use her ability on herself.

Where did she come from? Syn was born in St. Paul, Minnesota to parents Edward and Barbara Anders. Her childhood was considered normal. She grew up in a happy home with good values, love and respect. Syn is an only child and often spent a lot of time alone in her room, especially during the cold winters. It can take a toll on a person's psyche.

Generally a happy child, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. In fact, she was almost too good. A mind like a sponge, she sailed through middle school into high school. Honors and advanced college preparation courses consumed her life. No time for boys.

What does her name mean? Syn, is the Norse Goddess of watchfulness and truth. Born under Norwegian decent, she was named after her grandmother, Cynthia Griffiths... with a clever twist in using the "s".

What is her motivation? She is too smart for the world and wants to prove it.

What does she want? At first, she just wanted a happy, normal life. But if pushed in the wrong direction, her powerful ability could change everything.

Habbo links to HeroesWiki

Looks like the information on powers and stuff like that link to HeroesWiki pages. Maybe a page for Empathic Manipulation should be made soon. -Lөvөl 17:06, 27 January 2009 (EST)

  • I don't think we have enough information on it nor have we seen it demonstrated in any medium that I'm aware of. So for now I think the redirect is probably the right way to go. All the information we have on her ability was provided as part of her profile. I saw it links to her article for Empathic Manipulation which is probably the most useful one for them to link to since most of the interesting aspects of her ability currently are just how they pertain to her. (Admin 17:12, 27 January 2009 (EST))
    • Just becaue a power shows up on Habbo doesnt mean we have to make a page for it. Otherwise the ability to close pools would need a page. --Piemanmoo 17:15, 27 January 2009 (EST)
      • Well, let's see what happens. This might get interesting. --Referos 18:43, 27 January 2009 (EST)

the show

Am i the only one who has the strange feeling we will never see her in the show? --Manwithnoname 17:21, 27 January 2009 (EST)

  • That's definitely a possibility. Currently, there are no plans for her character to appear on the show. However, she will be appearing in Heroes Evolutions, though whether it will be in an iStory, graphic novel, or live-action video or more than one of those hasn't been made clear.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:26, 27 January 2009 (EST)
  • It wouldn't surprise me, though who knows... they've surprised us before! In One of Us, One of Them we got to meet Bridget Bailey (albeit briefly) who had originally been created for the BBC's version of Heroes Evolutions. (Admin 17:28, 27 January 2009 (EST))
  • Judging on what we've seen happen before, I'd rather not see her in the show. -- Tristan0709 talk 20:38, 27 January 2009 (EST)
    • Yeah, I think you're, right, they should just give her a a couple of graphic novels and stop there Rod 10:24, 29 January 2009 (EST)

Guilliame

Has anyone noticed striking similarities between her power and the haitians dad? I feel like im on crazy pills.--TomJs35713 (talk) 18:37, 30 January 2009 (EST)

  • The similarity has been noted. See the above profile, which notes "Also different from Guillame (the Haitian's father) who can introduce positive or negative sensations in other people, Syn manipulates emotions and can control the volume and intensity of those emotions as well." PS: Don't forget to add your sig; I added it for you this time, Tom.--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:25, 30 January 2009 (EST)
