This seems kind of huge and klugey, and likely to become even more so. I'm not even sure this page needs a TOC--it's not that long, and the individual items are very, very short, making the jumps almost non-existent. For me at least, it's harder to find someone's name in the TOC than in the table itself. If it's absolutely necessary, I'd rather see a simple alphabetical TOC with an extra link to the suspected section. At least an alphabetical TOC won't continue to grow and become more confusing as more characters are introduced.--Hardvice (talk) 13:40, 27 September 2007 (EDT)

  • Ok, that's fine, delete it if you don't think it is worthwhile. I just noticed that other pages that have large lists on them have TOCs, so it seemed a good candidate, especially since it will probably continue to grow in the seasons and decades to come. Besides, I hadn't made a TOC before, and thought it was a good task to undertake. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 09/27/2007 14:47 (EST)
    • I don't think it's a bad idea. I just think that alphabetical jumps would be more useful (and would mean the TOC wouldn't grow along with the page, which defeats its purpose).--Hardvice (talk) 14:53, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
      • And the jumps don't work, I tried to add auto jump links but I couldn't get it to work. -Lөvөl 14:58, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
        • I can't get the jumps figured out....I tried to use how the jumps work on the PowersTOC, but I've not got something right. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 09/27/2007 16:48 (EST)
        • The jumps don't work cause you are trying to link to headers that are hidden inside the table. You need to either break up the tables so the headers can be seperate, or convert the toc and headers to use span or div id's instead.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:51, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
          • Template:PowersTOC uses Template:Powers, which applies a "name" identifier for each power in the table.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:56, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
        • Should all be working fine now. To get the section headings into the table, they need to be included inside one of the entries, so I added a letter= option to the evolved template. If somebody is the first-listed person for a given letter, just add the letter= variable and the jump link will be set up properly within their row. For example, "Claire Bennet" is the first entry under "B", so adding letter=B to Claire's {{evolved}} line marks her as the jump point for the letter B.--Hardvice (talk) 17:08, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
          • The jumps look marvelous now, and the horizontal alpha-TOC is a much smaller footprint. Excellent work! --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 09/27/2007 17:09 (EST)
            • Thanks. The trouble is it will require a bit of maintenance. If, say, a character named "Bob Bennet" is introduced, then he'd need to have the letter=B added to his line, and it would have to be removed from Claire's (or the B jump in "Suspected" won't work). The system auto-numbers repeated section headings, so the B jump under "Suspected" is actually section #B_2. We'll also have to modify this template if and when missing letters are filled in, and we'll have to be careful to make sure the jumps in Suspected continue to work. (And actually, since the section headings are hidden, I'll simplify that a bit right now).--Hardvice (talk) 17:14, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
            • Can you work your same magic on the the second powers table list on the powersTOC? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 09/27/2007 17:17 (EST)
              • Since that's just a table with no templates, regular <span id=>s work fine. See Deoxygenation.--Hardvice (talk) 17:33, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
