What are we going to do with the template once we're in, say, the second season, and this template gets huge? Should we maybe make another called "second season places" template or something? Heroe 11:10, 19 February 2007 (EST)

*You're right, I was thinking that same thing last night when working with some of the places. I don't "second season places" would work too well because there are lots of places that I'm sure will appear in the first season and the second season. I think we should probably go back to having just a template for residences, one for businesses, one for education & research, etc. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:22, 19 February 2007 (EST)

Getting Cluttered

Places edit

Chandra's office · Chennai University · Deveaux Gallery · FBI Headquarters · Gray & Sons · Isaac's apartment · Montecito Casino · Odessa Sheriff's Department · Primatech Paper Co. · Sylar's cell · Union Wells High School · Yamagato Industries

See also: apartments · diners · houses

What do you think of the burb above? --Orne 15:14, 13 December 2006 (EST)

I think the names of the homes, apartments, and diners are still necessary. What about splitting it into sections, like on Category:Places? Something more like this?
Places edit

Chandra's office · Chennai University · Deveaux Gallery · FBI Headquarters · Gray & Sons · Isaac's apartment · Montecito Casino · Odessa Sheriff's Department · Primatech Paper Co. · Sylar's cell · Union Wells High School · Yamagato Industries

Apartments: Chandra's apartment (Brooklyn) · Chandra's apartment (Chennai) · Peter's apartment
Homes: The Bennets' home · The Sanderses' home · The Spragues' home
Diners: Burnt Toast Diner · Fly By Night Diner

(Obviously, I only threw a few in there. I didn't want to spend a lot of time on it...) You get the idea... - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:35, 13 December 2006 (EST)

My only concern is that once we get everything in the "red link" list implemented, there could easily be an additional 15 or so Places... do we want every one? Or do we only want the ones that have significant plot points associated with them? After all, if we wanted to see all of them, we could just pop over to Category:Places and see them all. --Orne 15:40, 13 December 2006 (EST)
Howabout the place bar Orne suggests above, and then (a) separate bar(s) for homes, apartments, and diners? That gives us the best of both worlds ... a streamlined place bar that still links to everything (though some are two clicks away) and navigation between like-styled places. We can expand it later to have a separate bar for each heading on Portal:Places if need be.--Hardvice (talk) 16:05, 13 December 2006 (EST)
For that matter, we could actually split Category:Places into real subcats for Homes, etc. Would clean up both the navbars and the portal page.--Hardvice (talk) 16:11, 13 December 2006 (EST)
Agree - I like the idea of a few separate bars, and categories, too. I don't think apartments and homes should necessarily be separated, though - How about one for "residences", one for "businesses", and one catchall for "places", at least for now? - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:13, 13 December 2006 (EST)
On the portal right now, we have "Residences", "Businesses", "Law Enforcement", and "Other" (many of which are actually businesses). Do we want to stick with that? If so, the project looks like this:
 1. Add subcategories
 2. Add portal pages for subcategories
 3. Update Portal:Places to show subcats, not individual places
 4. Add navbars for subcats
 5. Update individual articles with new navbars (which will auto recat)

Unboldenering

Okay, the side categories on this template are bold, and I can't seem to undo the bolding. I looked for a font weight and couldn't find anything. What am I missing? - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:25, 21 January 2007 (EST)

It's still making those side categories ("Businesses", "Education & Research" etc.) bold. Does anybody know how to fix that? - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:27, 23 January 2007 (EST)
They're heading cells. Change the "!" to a "|".--Hardvice (talk) 01:17, 24 January 2007 (EST)

It's gonna get really big eventually
