Theory Citations Notes
Maury angered the Company and left his family to keep them from getting involved. Matt's father left when Matt was thirteen years old. (The Kindness of Strangers) + The time Matt's father left would be during the time he was a veteran in the Company.

+ Molly states that she doesn't want to find Mr. Parkman using her ability because he sees her. This may imply that the Company used her to find him previously, as she would not have reason to use her ability to find him otherwise.
+ In Fight or Flight, Maury tells Matt that he had to leave, and it was very difficult for him.

- Of course, he could have easily been lying about this to cover himself, given that his son was angry and holding a gun on him.
- Additionally, after leaving Matt and Nathan in an illusion where they can unintentionally bludgeon each other to death, Maury doesn't strike as much of a family man.
+ Maury has thus far shown that he was a supporter of Adam's plans. After Adam was imprisoned, the Company may have thought Maury might try to free him, so Maury would have to have left Matt and his mother to protect them.

+ Maury died trying to stop Matt Parkman from getting killed. He may have been exactly the type to try to prevent his loved ones from getting involved by isolated himself from them.

The entire Heroes world only exists in our heads due to Maury's use of telepathy. None. + Nathan, Matt, and Niki had no idea that their visions were a result of Maury Parkman's power.

- Deus Ex Machina is a horrible writing device and Heroes is pretty awesome so far.
- Maury's use of telepathy is part of the Heroes world.

+ That's exactly what Maury wants you to believe.

+ Our 'real' world is the illusion created by Maury. This is why we don't know about the company or abilities, and believe that heroes is a tv show.

Maury was not Matt's birth father. None. - Their powers are very similar.
+ It is not confirmed that powers are hereditary. It could just be coincidence.
- This would be a very unlikely coincidence, especially since Maury and Matt look like father and son.

+ None of the other evolved families thus far have had direct inheritance of a similar power.

- Perhaps the same power is more likely to be passed on if only one parent has a power.
+ If James Walker had the same power as Molly, Sylar wouldn't have needed hers.
- Sylar couldn't have known what Molly's powers were. He only went after her because he knew she had a power.
- James could have died before Sylar took his brain. Sylar may have just tried in vain to take his powers.
- Perhaps mental powers are more likely to be inherited. One example of this could be the Haitian and Guillame, since their powers are similar. The single parent theory above could also apply to them.

+ Maury might have left Matt when his son was thirteen because he knew Matt wasn't his, just as Matt left Janice.
+ Matt's willingness to adopt Molly may be a sign that he was also adopted.

- It may also be because she's cute, and Matt's a nice guy.
Maury has an ulterior motive for telling Daphne to recruit Matt into the Pinehearst Company. None. + If Maury, a telepath, is already a member, why would they need Matt, another telepath?
- It's logical for Pinehearst to recruit multiple individuals with the same ability.
- It doesn't seem likely that Maury would go over Arthur's head.
+ Maury may be recruiting his own Trojan army at Pinehearst to overthrow Arthur Petrelli in a coup, starting with Matt and Daphne.
- Arthur also insisted in recruiting Matt.
Maury's death was only an illusion created by his power. None. + He could be trying to manipulate someone, possibly Daphne, by making it look like Arthur killed him.

- Maury would have to be a ridiculously quick thinker to make an illusion like that, with such a quick change of events.

+ Maury raised objections to Arthur's assassination order many moments before Arthur "killed" him. In addition to the fact that he's been working for Arthur for many years, it wouldn't take that long for him to figure out that protecting his son would mean his life, given the man he was going up against, and it wouldn't take that long for him to figure out a plan to try and protect his son whilst still protecting his own life.
- Arthur is also a telepath, so Maury's power would have been canceled out (as with Matt and Peter).
+ Two telepaths don't necessarily "cancel out". This was shown when Maury trapped Matt in a dream, and vice-versa, and they are both telepaths.
+ If this were the case, Arthur could have been in on it in order to manipulate Daphne this way to put fear into her (to support the theory, but would make no real sense since Arthur could have directly manipulated Daphne).

+ Maury could have read her mind, noted she was developing feelings for Matt, and faked his own death to convince her how evil Arthur could be, and driving her to Matt's side, who he knew would see the good person she really was.

- Maury was evil himself.
+ Maury still cared for his son, as seen in his initial reaction to Matt in Fight or Flight and his concern and defiance over Matt's fate in his (as far as we know) final moments.
Although Maury's physical body is dead, his telepathy allows his mind to survive and possibly return in a later episode (possibly in another body). None. + Both Charles Deveaux's and Hana Gitelman's minds have survived beyond physical death.

+ The Astral Plain in Marvel comics allows psychics to survive physical death and it wouldn't be the first idea the Heroes team have "borrowed" from the X-Men.

Maury lost his powers to Arthur once, but regained them by taking the formula serum. None. Telepathy had to come from somewhere.

- Nothing suggests Maury ever lost his ability.
- It seems more likely that Arthur would have taken the ability from someone that he did not deem as useful to him as Maury was.
+ Arthur told Peter that he can give Peter his powers back using the formula. He seemed pretty sure that it would work. So the formula had already been used to give a powerless evolved human his power back. This could be Maury.

Maury was responsible for "healing" Nathan at the start of Season 3. We know for a fact that Maury was responsible for Nathan's visions of Linderman, placing him at the hospital just after Nathan was shot. + It seems likely that Maury would try to "sell" Nathan's miracle visions with a "miracle recovery". After all, Nathan's visions of the afterlife wouldn't work if the doctor's told him he was never legally dead.

+ It would be well within his powers to manipulate the doctors into thinking Nathan had died, even if the surgery had been successful. All it would take is a few seconds of mind-control...
