Bennet/HRG

The possibility that Bennet has a power has been suggested quite often, but it has been pointed out just as often that the Haitian is almost always around when someone's powers are blocked. Bennet even specifically attributed the blocking of Eden's power to the Haitian in Six Months Ago. The prevailing theory is that the Haitian has only one power, but it has multiple effects. It seems to interfere with other powers passively; just by his presence he blocks Matt's telepathy, even through walls and from a significant distance. Actively, it interferes with mental function, destroying memories and possibly knocking people out. It's possible that the Haitian reduces Sylar's power simply by being in the same building. It's also possible that Bennet was drugging Sylar to limit his power, or taking some other mundane measure to control him. In any case, there's no solid evidence that Bennet is an evolved human at all, at least not yet. --Ted C 17:33, 24 January 2007 (EST)

I agree there is absolutely no evidence yet for HRG....I'm just making a prediction. Call it a 'gut-feeling based on the points I raised above. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 17:37, 24 January 2007 (EST)

Brian Davis's Address

Hi there, HiroDynoSlayer! Good find on the post-it note pic. I uploaded the image for you, cutting out the watermark. Here's the link: Image:Brian Davis post-it.jpg. Incidentally if it's a screencap, I don't think it matters if you actually captured it or if somebody else did. Because the img had the watermark on it, it's pretty obvious that it's a screenshot, and I put the appropriate source info on the image page. Feel free to add it to the Brian Davis#Gallery when you want. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:46, 26 January 2007 (EST)

Thanks for adding the pic. I removed the info about the Drug Induced Hallucination from the gallery, since that's speculation. The post-it note could have been misplaced in the folder, or Davis may have been a source for somebody else's file, or a lot of other theories. But we have the picture there, and people can read it and draw their own conclusions. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:09, 26 January 2007 (EST)

Links, Underscores, and Piping

Just a head-up to make life easier: I've noticed you've been using underscores in links to articles with spaces in their names (e.g. Kaito_Nakamura) and then using a pipe to remove the underscore (Kaito Nakamura). MediaWiki actually doesn't differentiate between spaces and underscores in links (even when they are explicit, like in image names), so you can just link to Kaito Nakamura and it will work fine. Like I said, even if an article or image title contains explicit underscores (e.g. ), you can still ignore the underscores when linking to it (Image:powers micah atm.jpg). Hope that helps!--Hardvice (talk) 12:43, 31 January 2007 (EST)

  • Appreciate it! Any tips are great. I've been writing computure code for years and years, but am still new and getting my arms around the whole wiki-markup. Is there a good place to go to that explains in general terms, the wiki approach to scripting, and/or verse html or other markup, etc? If there is a good quick-ref link for the actually scripting formatting, that would be real useful to me in the future. (HiroDynoSlayer-talk) 13:56, 31 January 2007 (EST)

Dungeons and Dragons

Hey, there. I noticed you uploaded the D&D logo. Unfortunately, having an ampersand (&) in a link throws everything out of whack. I reuploaded the image for you here: Image:DandD.png - the old one is deleted. (If you could add a source, that'd be great...) Hope that helps. :) - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:57, 31 January 2007 (EST)

New Links Page with Videos

Hey! I got a sample version of the new links page set up here. Lemme know what you think.--Hardvice (talk) 18:07, 2 February 2007 (EST)

James Walker and Ice generation

  • Hey, HDS -- thanks for your message about JW and ice generation. First, it's not really about convincing me that James Walker had freeze. I might be a sysop here, but I'm not in charge. Even Admin, the starter of this wiki and the only bureaucrat here, will be quick to say that he's not in charge either. This is a community wiki, and the community is in charge. If you want to convince anybody of something, ya gotta convince the community. :)

That said, the evidence you presented on my talk page is only compelling in convincing me that Sylar had the power to freeze, and that he used it on James Walker. But if Walker had the power, how would Sylar have used it on him before he stole it? It's actually a more convincing argument that Mrs. Walker had the power, Sylar stole it from her, and then used it on James. (Of course, Mrs. Walker didn't have her brain removed, so that whole theory is bunk).

I agree that the first person associated with the power is James Walker, but that doesn't mean he had it. It would be a little bit like saying, "James Walker was killed with a scythe, so James Walker must have invented the scythe." Who's to say that David didn't have the power and Sylar obtained in three months ago? Or another one of the many victims killed by Sylar, like this guy or any of the dead people from the list?

There's just too much compelling evidence that James didn't have the power, and that somebody prior to his death did have it. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:00, 21 February 2007 (EST)

Image Browsing

There's no easy way to browse, especially browsing old versions of a pic. Check out Special:Newimages, a gallery of new images. If you're looking for an old pic, it's a beast, but the gallery feature is quite nice. Also, try searching Special:Imagelist -- it's not a gallery, and it doesn't work if the file name is not very descriptive, but it's a good starting point. After that, I'd suggest searching some of the image categories. And finally, if you still need help, there's a few of us that are pretty well-aware of what images there are, just because of the sheer amount of time spent categorizing, filing, and uploading the pics -- if you need help, just ask. :) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:10, 26 February 2007 (EST)

Screenshots or Promtional

Hey, HDS ... The images you uploaded are great. Are they screenshots or promtional images? If they're promotional (from NBC or elsewhere), then put image-promtional from NBC.com (or from wherever you got them). Thanks! — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:07, 28 February 2007 (EST)

Peter vs Sylar

I believe you were talking about a page comparing Peter and Sylar, I just wanted to let you know I made one here. Any Input would be appreciated -Lөvөl 03:44, 7 March 2007 (EST)

  • Have you seen how the Powers page has been updated? It has two categories for both Peter and Sylar, showing what powers they have 'munged' from others....so it might be that a separate page will now be redundant. What might be a suggestion for this page, in a slightly different direction, would be to list a Chronology from Genesis forward by Episode, and show when and what power either Peter or Sylar manifested. Just a thought. That would then go to deeper detail than what the Powers page goes into. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 03/7/2007 10:07 (EST)

Categories on Images

Hi. I notice you seem to forget to put categories on images you upload. Just remember to do that. Heroe(talk) 21:34, 27 March 2007 (EDT)

Unamed

Hey HDS, are you going to create unamed 5 6 etc ? Because on the Chandra's journal page there is more than 4 entry in the gallery, no ? Or I miss something maybe. --   FrenchFlo   (talk)  (contribs)  11:22, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

  • Yes, I am just slow. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 03/28/2007 11:24 (EST)
  • Hey Hiro, I don't get the age of the unnamed peoples. For exemple, 13 years old in 2003, I'm not really aware about the timeline but if the show happens in 2006, can't we say that she is 16 years old ? -- FrenchFlo (talk)        12:34, 28 March 2007 (EDT)
    • I did the age that way, because we don't know if they are still alive or not, just that they were alive and that age, in the year Chandra recorded it in his journal. I could have added up the passed years between Chandra's date and 2007 and added that to their age to get their 2007 age, but then we would have to update it each year to keep it current. Since these characters may not ever evolve into re-occurring characters, it really isn't worth the upkeep. (and if they do, we'll probably get a plethora of info on them) The only caveat I did do with them, was to forecast their age in current time, so that it might help us recognize them if we see someone debuted on the show from their location with their power, of the same gender and age. What I think is really interesting, is the lady who would be 123 present day. Chandra showed her power (Telepathy) being recorded in 1971, which puts her as a very early generation evolved human and contemporary of Austin; but at the time, she would have been over 60 years older than Austin. There is no info to connect them; but she is the oldest evolved human that has been introduced in the show to date. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 03/28/2007 13:45 (EST)

"The s.o.b. is thinking in Japanese."

That was Matt not Ted--ASEO 15:47, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

Peter TK/STM

In the STM article, it says Peter demonstrates it on the roof. In the discussion for that page, it's agreed upon. In addition to that, there's an interview (I'll find it after I write a paper) from the writers (the one Aron does normally) where he said it was STM, not telekinesis that stopped the darts.--Bob 08:51, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

  • I don't think there's anything wrong with taking out the link. First, we need to remember that even if we all agree upon something, it doesn't necessarily make it correct. Second, what was agreed upon was that it was most likely a combination of telekinesis and space-time manipulation. Third, there's really nothing wrong with abstention from using a link. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:16, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

Appearances templates

It looks like you're in the middle of doing the appearances templates, so I want to catch you before you get too far into it. I wouldn't put the "Character Appearances" headings in the template itself because it throws off the headings that follow it. Try clicking on the "edit" button on one of the episode pages to see what I mean. (See here for my other concerns...) Thanks for taking on that project, though -- that is definitely not something I wanted to do. :) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:51, 9 April 2007 (EDT)

Headings on Templates

I'm actually right in the middle of working out a solution to the template headings. I went ahead and rolled back the changes you made for now; I need them as-is for testing. Sorry about that.--Hardvice (talk) 13:47, 9 April 2007 (EDT)

  • No problem, I was about to reply to Ryan to see if this was what he was wanting before doing anymore. I will stop doing the Header change. What about the conversion I was doing before long, to create and implement the Appearance Templates? I got as far as Better Halves. Do you want me to continue creating and implementing the templates for the rest of the shows, or hold off until you get 'your solution' worked out? I won't do any more changes until I hear back from you. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 04/9/2007 13:53 (EST)
    • I think we'll need to adjust the individual templates, but you can go ahead and add them if you like. It's easy enough to change. I was just hitting "show preview" and getting some very unexpected results since the templates had changed.  :) --Hardvice (talk) 13:55, 9 April 2007 (EDT)
    • Ok, it's mostly working. See Template:AppearancesNothingToHide and Episode:Nothing to Hide. The section edit labels all work, and the section edit for the Appearances section goes directly to the template. The only problem with this approach is that the Character Appearances section doesn't show up in the TOC.--Hardvice (talk) 15:01, 9 April 2007 (EDT)

Appearance Templates

They either need to all be five columns, or all be four columns. For one thing, Template:Appearancecolumn is coded to make each column 25% wide, so it was munching up the fifth column (since the total table width was 125%). For another, varying the number of columns looks awful on List of character appearances by episode. Five columns doesn't always fit very well (a lot of names get wrapped), so I switched everything back to four columns.--Hardvice (talk) 15:20, 9 April 2007 (EDT)

  • Yeah, I just noticed that. I think I need to fix 'TheFix' which I just updated, and also go back and change 1x2 to be 4 instead of 5. I'll do that, and keep the next bunch at 4. Just trying to get everything entered and finished...will go back and double-check again at the end. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 04/9/2007 15:24 (EST)

Span IDs

You don't have to do them. They don't work, at least as far as getting the section to show up in the TOC (though you could link to them). Waste of time.--Hardvice (talk) 16:05, 9 April 2007 (EDT)

    • OK....I started at the end, and am about 3 ro 4 episodes from putting the tag on all of them. Should I go back and take it off? Also, I haven't made the header-section change to the Appearance Templates yet; (which matches what you suggested in Nothing to Hide...do you want me to still do those changes? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 04/9/2007 16:07 (EST)
      • All of the section heading changes are done. The Span ID's don't hurt anything--they just don't do any good.--Hardvice (talk) 16:11, 9 April 2007 (EDT)

Quote

Hey, I don't want to be the evil one but I don't know if it's a good thing to have spoilerish quotes on a User page since users pages haven't the spoiler tag. Yeah I know, everybody isn't going to come look at your page but we never knows. Maybe an admin could tell us more about this :) See ya ! -- FrenchFlo (talk)        17:24, 9 May 2007 (EDT)

  • A person can have whatever they want on their userpage. I might draw the line at pornography (unless it's really really good pornography, of course), but HDS can do whatever he wants on his page. A user who navigates the site should be aware that if they click on a user page, they're leaving the main articles. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:27, 9 May 2007 (EDT)
    • I'll put some type of message at the top, warning that some quotes at the bottom might be from previews of yet-released episodes. Is there a template for that type of thing? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 05/9/2007 17:30 (EST)

Powers and Images

Hey there. I reverted your changes to induced radioactivity--pages about powers should generally only have about 8-12 examples. If there's an examples page (which there is for that one: examples of induced radioactivity), then there should only be 8 pictures on the page. I also deleted some of the images you uploaded because they're duplicates. If you want to use the ones already uploaded, here are the links: Image:I can't control it.jpg, Image:Maniacal sylar.JPG, and Image:Powers peter radioactivity.jpg. Thanks. Let me know if you have questions about any of that. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:15, 1 August 2007 (EDT)

Peter's Power Templates

The powers future Peter mimicked are already on Template:futurepetermimicked so they don't need to be on Template:petermimicked. We don't have a Template:futurepeterexposed, you could make it, but the edits you made to Template:Peterexposed, kind of messed it up. -Lөvөl 17:15, 18 September 2007 (EDT)

    • Thanks, I added the new template; sorry I missed the older one; things are getting so big here, it is easy to overlook things sometimes. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 09/19/2007 11:43 (EST)

Costa Verde

On the Season 2 talk page, you said that there was a real place in San Diego called Costa Verde. Could you tell us more about that here? Conduit 19:16, 29 September 2007 (EDT)

Images of the Haitian

It should be Category:Images of the Haitian, not Images of The Haitian. "The" does not get capitalized. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:42, 2 October 2007 (EDT)

  • I was aware that secondary words (a, an the, of, etc...) don't get capitalized. However, if you look at his character page, his name is 'The Haitian'. Therefore, because it is capitalized in the way he is referred to in formal manner, I kept the capitalization as being apart of how his name is written. Had his page and name been written solely as 'Haitian' and not 'The Haitian', I would have done the image section as lower-case. Just trying to be consistent, even if it wasn't consistent. (since his name is kinda abnormal to begin with). Too bad Guillame again didn't mention it in today's GN. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 10/2/2007 12:56 (EST)
    • The name of the article is capitalized because the first word for an article is always capitalized. It's what the mediawiki software does. He's called "the Haitian", not "Haitian", thus the name of the article.--Bob 13:30, 2 October 2007 (EDT)
      • Yeah, not a big deal. We just have to go back and fix the categories. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:18, 2 October 2007 (EDT)

Group of twelve picture variations

  • Do you want the article "Group of twelve picture variations" moved into your user space or just deleted? (Admin 12:00, 18 October 2007 (EDT))
    • Well....kinda neither. It seems to me to be a valuable article noting the differences between the photos involving the group of twelve. Why can't it be its own page? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 10/18/2007 12:01 (EST)
      • It's not noteworthy enough to stand up as its own page. It's just information that's best suited as notes or trivia in Group of twelve. (Admin 12:03, 18 October 2007 (EDT))
        • OK, here is why I did it as a stand-alone page. Perhaps you can help me fit it in somewhere better. The current Group of 12 page already has an established gallery that presents each member. I haven't seen any pages with two different galleries, but that is really what it needs, to be able to show the photo variations on this page (instead of its own page). Just noting the differences, without showing the picture differences, really takes away from what it turning out to be a very interesting development. Can I put a second gallery on the group of 12 page showing the picture differences? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 10/18/2007 12:06 (EST)
          • That sounds more reasonable, however if it is simply a production issue/error then it's a lot of content for something that doesn't mean anything in the Heroes universe. I'd suggest bringing it up on Talk:Group of twelve and seeing what others think of the idea since I can see different opinions on it. Now, if we find out later on that someone purposely manipulated the photo then it would definitely warrant its own section in Group of twelve with its own gallery. Until then I'm not sure how much agreement there will be on whether it's noteworthy enough to go into such detail. (Admin 12:09, 18 October 2007 (EDT))
            • OK, I am going to move the full page to my user area for now. See how the talk section goes, and we can revive it later if it merits it. I think there are some other differences as well, that I just haven't flushed out yet....there are quite a few discussions of these variations going on over at 9th wonders as well. It is a pretty intriguing event, and I believe has too many differences to be a simple production snafu. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 10/18/2007 12:12 (EST)
          • Just to note: lots of pages have multiple galleries. The Symbol has six. The only trick is to label them differently.--Hardvice (talk) 15:39, 18 October 2007 (EDT)
            • Thanks...I just couldn't remember any of the top of my head. If this pans out being something of true substance, then a double-gallery on the 12's page would probably be the best fit. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 10/18/2007 16:00 (EST)
