Genesis

You really need to look at a calendar of 2006.

Genesis is September 28, 2006. Why?

  • Sylar's watch shows the date and time that he killed Chandra, which can be seen very clearly in I Am Become Death as the 24th day of a month. The bulk of Genesis occurs four days later, which is September 28, 2006. Mohinder finds out about Chandra's death within hours of the occurrence (remember that there is a 9.5-hour time difference between New York City, New York and Chennai, India) on September 25, 2006 and comes to his apartment/claims the body on September 27, 2006.
  • Claire's MySpace makes it very clear that Genesis takes place after school on a school day (Zach and Claire are filming after school). October 1, 2006 is a SUNDAY. September 28, 2006 is a Thursday and Jackie claims credit for the incident on Friday. Sandra also makes a comment about going to the new mall in Gardendale on Saturday. It kind of makes more sense if we're talking about the end of a week instead of a Sunday of the weekend before.

Your assertion that every episode happens on one day doesn't work with what is seen in the episodes. In fact, scenes are not necessarily linear either (in fact, rarely are). (I have worked out a more specific calendar on Microsoft Works Calendar, complete with calculated times of day. You must factor in travel times, time zones, days of the week, school days, date and time indicators, etc...)

Hiro's trip to the bar on October 2, 2006 is on a separate day from Japan's eclipse on the morning of September 29, 2006.

  • If Homecoming is three weeks after Genesis, that is October 13, 2006. Charlie died on October 12, 2006. Homecoming specifically gives a school calendar where Homecoming takes place on a Friday. Another fallacy of the one episode = one day assumption. Putting Homecoming 3 weeks into October simply makes it impossible to get all the events to happen by November 8, 2006. October 13, 2006 is Homecoming--three weeks after the last week of September.

In my estimation, the comic with Daphne's backstory probably used the incorrect timeline from this site. Whoever moved the date indicator on Sylar's watch got it right.NileQT87 15:11, 30 November 2009 (EST)

    • In my defense, while there are a lot of fairly solidly established timeline positions based on later episodes, I'm taking this one episode/graphic novel at a time, to ensure that I don't overlook anything. Now let's look at this stuff bit by bit:
      • I would agree that Sylar's watch saying "24" implies September 24. However, the day after the Eclipse (October 1, 2006), Mohinder says outright that Chandra was killed "4 days ago" (September 28, 2006).
      • I'm afraid Claire's MySpace is filled with problems and cannot currently be considered a reliable source of information. The Caged Bird, Part 1 (as well as the October 2 Odessa Register talking about the Train Fire) explicitly place the Eclipse on October 1, 2006. I am aware 10/1/06 is a Sunday (in fact, Hiro's watch even shows "MO10/02" when he's in the future).
      • I have definitely made checks to make sure that events follow as they should, not assuming everything is one day. The Eclipse sets pretty much all of Genesis on Oct. 1. However, Don't Look Back has Niki continuing her stuff from Oct. 1 and Parkman dealing with the Walker homicides on an unknown day, while everything else takes place on Oct. 2.
      • Three weeks is 21 days. 21 days after October 1, 2006 is October 22, 2006. She says outright that it is "three weeks from today".
      • Much of this timeline configuration comes specifically from the October 2 date on the Odessa Register and Hiro's watch. The Eclipse, as such, MUST have occurred on October 1, 2006. --Ricard Desi (t,c) 13:41, 30 November 2009 (EST)

Hiro's story takes place on slightly different days because of the time difference and the fact that the evening out with Ando is several days later. The only conflicts with September 28, 2006 are The Caged Bird (which probably used this site) and the Odessa Register. Everything else, most importantly the fact that October 1 is a Sunday and some serious date cramming issues, points to September 28--the MUST date. Believe me. I have it all mapped out to the time of day that events occur. October 1 does not work at all. Chandra was killed on September 24, 2006 according to a pure canon source (Sylar's often-seen watch).

And there's no possible way that Homecoming could be on any day but October 13, 2006 without running into the one-day fallacy later on. Sylar's watch points to the only date that actually works. Also, Homecoming on October 22, 2006? A Sunday? When the episode blatantly states that it is on a Friday (the Spirit Week poster)? It doesn't work.

There was also a three weeks issue from The Rogue where cheerleader tryouts were supposed to be in three weeks (season 2). That's wrong because of the March 20, 2007 date. It's one week in-episode time, but three weeks between episodes. It's another error.

And I remembered why it can't be three weeks. Mohinder tells someone on the phone (October 14, 2006--Fallout is on a Saturday because of the Homecoming poster) that Charlie died two days ago (October 12, 2006--a Thursday) and the Walkers were killed nine days ago (October 5, 2006--a Thursday). This definitely would mess up the timeline as you have it.

Claire also says "SATs in October" as if it weren't October. Because it was still September when she said it. NileQT87 15:11, 30 November 2009 (EST)

  • The manner in which people refer to "today" and "yesterday" has so far posed the majority of how the timeline fits together, but I'm taking this one episode at a time. I'll sort out the inconsistencies as I come across them. --Ricard Desi (t,c) 15:39, 30 November 2009 (EST)

Genesis = October 1, 2006 Confirmed

Simple case: A newspaper for October 2, 2006 details the Odessa train fire that Claire was involved in. She claims the fire (and thus the Eclipse, if you'll notice Claire and Zach are wearing the same clothes) was "yesterday". Thus, Genesis primarily takes place on October 1, 2006.

That said, the Hiro and Ando stories do NOT take place on October 1. For one, if you look in the background the first time we see Ando, he has a calendar on his wall, of SEPTEMBER 2006. If you take into consideration that Japanese companies have calisthenics in the morning, this means the Eclipse was likely the day AFTER Hiro learned how to use his powers (which explains why when interrogated, Hiro said he "did this" "yesterday".) --Ricard Desi (t,c) 13:29, 6 December 2009 (EST)

Good Job

Excellent job on the timeline, it's starting to look really good, keep up the good work :P --Jenx222 | U / T / C | <inlcudeonly>08:00, 7 January 2012 (EST) 18:26, 27 December 2009 (EST)

  • Thanks, as messy as it looks, it's about a million times more confusing to try to line up bits and pieces. Niki's timeline is so screwy it's unbelievable. --Ricard Desi (t,c) 19:36, 27 December 2009 (EST)

Weren't the Petrelli's married in 1965? (41 years before 2006) - Jenx222 | U / T / C | <inlcudeonly>08:00, 7 January 2012 (EST) 15:47, 9 January 2010 (EST)

  • Actually, based on Villains, they celebrated their 41st anniversary about six months before Gabriel and Chandra met (by the "18 months ago" and "one year ago" labels on the associated shots). Gabriel and Chandra met in April 2006, so the 41st anniversary would have been around October 2005, meaning they were married somewhere in the vicinity of October 1964. --Ricard Desi (t,c) 15:50, 9 January 2010 (EST)
    • One year ago brought us to October 2006 (the train wreck/bennet in New York) plus 6 months ago is April 2006 (around the time of the events of "Six Months Ago") - Jenx222 | U / T / C | <inlcudeonly>08:00, 7 January 2012 (EST) 15:56, 9 January 2010 (EST)
      • True, true. They didn't do a very good job distinguishing between an event that was clearly April 2006 and an event that was clearly October 2006. I may move the wedding back to 1964/1965 since it's unclear (again). --Ricard Desi (t,c) 16:02, 9 January 2010 (EST)
        • It was slightly confusing to actually pinpoint a date but then I watched the episode commentary and they say that 18 months ago brings us to the events of "Six Months Ago". This also helps us give a date to Volume 3 (April-October 2007) - Jenx222 | U / T / C | <inlcudeonly>08:00, 7 January 2012 (EST) 16:09, 9 January 2010 (EST)
