Character History
Season Two
For an episode-by-episode summary, see West Rosen: Season Two History.
West meets Claire at their high school, where West states that Claire is a "robot" because she doesn't want to stand out. He later hovers outside her bedroom window, before flying over the neighbourhood without her noticing. A few days later, he leaves a copy of Activating Evolution outside her door, seeing Claire cut off one of her toes and regenerate. At school, West reveals his ability by flying Claire over Costa Verde and to the beach, where Claire sees that he has the mark. He claims that got the mark after he was captured by a man in horn rimmed glasses when he was younger.
One morning, Claire wakes up to find West making breakfast with Sandra. Noah returns home, and West recognises him, trying to escape with Claire. She reveals that the man is her father, and West flies away, suspecting a trap. Later, West grabs Noah and flies him to a high altitude, but convinces West to let him down, as Noah orders him to help Claire. When they meet with Mohinder and Elle, West flies into Elle, knocking her out, and bringing Elle back to the "Butlers'" house. As Noah and West meet Bob to exchange Claire with Elle, West tries to fly away with her, only to be shot down, recovering enough to fly Claire away after Noah is shot.
Later, West visits Claire while she is preparing to move. West convinces her that she shouldn't forget her father, as she is about to contact the Haitian. He later accompanies Claire and her family on a beach as they say goodbye to Noah. Some time later, West arrives at Claire's house as she is packing the Primatech files to expose the Company. West says that he's not here to help her, but to stop her, telling her that exposing them won't change anything. Claire shuns him away, and he walks out of her home and stares back at her for a moment before flying away.
Evolved Human Abilities
West possesses the power of flight. He has shown a high degree of control over his flight ability, varying his speed and altitude without visual cues. He maneuvers with sufficient skill to avoid overt detection from both individuals on the ground and in aircraft, despite flying in broad daylight. West claims to achieve stratospheric heights, well over 31,000 feet above the ground, without any ill effects beyond a chill from the lower temperature air. (Flying Blind)
Memorable Quotes
"See, I have this theory. Whether it's fate or choice, people break down into only two categories. You're either a robot, or an alien. My debate teacher would call that reductive. I call it a neat expression of a larger truth. Robots operate out of programs -- conventional logic. They follow the rules. Robots scan the world from side to side. Aliens are more... abstract thinkers. If they need to break a rule to keep their own paths, they do. Without fear. Aliens look down and up... when they choose to. I'm not condemning one or the other, but, I'd rather be alone than be surrounded by robots. And robots could never even see someone like me."
- - West (Flying Blind)
"You can skydive without a parachute!"
"You can skydive without a plane!"
"You're a total babe, and you have a power. By definition that makes you better than her."
"You're sweet."
Notes
- According to the episode commentary for The Kindness of Strangers, West's flight is supposed to have a "more lyrical, Peter Pan quality" than Nathan's.
- West is a member of a debate club. (Flying Blind)
Trivia
- According to the episode commentary for Four Months Later..., West is named for Tim Kring's nephew, West Rosen. Likewise, in an interview, Nick D'Agosto said that his character's name is West Rosen. This was confirmed in the episode Cautionary Tales.
