It asks everyone why they're the biggest Heroes fan in 30 seconds or less and says you have a chance to be on TV.
Your thoughts? I'm gonna compile my videos since they're all short and submit that.--Riddler 15:18, 5 September 2008 (EDT)
*I guess Main Page is the wrong place to discuss this? I put it here 'cause I figured it'd go under news, if anything.--Riddler 14:42, 6 September 2008 (EDT)
** Oh, I didn't think there was anything to discuss. I thought you were just letting us know. What did you want to discuss? -- 14:47, 6 September 2008 (EDT)
*** ...Didn't think that far into it. Anyone submitting anything, maybe? Or does it belong in the news section? >_>;--Riddler 14:51, 6 September 2008 (EDT)

I changed the very old "Next Graphic Novel" section to direct to Heroes Reborn. No spoilers, just a point to the new page. I figure that it should be a bit more prominent than it is. Also, I figure that's what people are looking for when they come to the site. Any objections? -- 00:21, 20 April 2014 (EDT)
Preparing for S.3
Given that we are entering the last week before the season premiere, what about replacing the "latest webisode" blurb with the "latest episode" one (i.e. Powerless)? The "Going Postal" webisodes are (sorta) a closed book, and with NBC's heavy promotion of the third season, it's likely that new people will stumble upon Heroes Wiki, presumably looking for info on where the series left off: Powerless. Pierre 07:27, 15 September 2008 (EDT)
* Agree. By the way, Timm Keppler and Jim Martin are busy writing the next set of webisodes now, I believe. As far as I can gather, they won't have anything to do with Going Postal. -- 07:49, 15 September 2008 (EDT)
** Since we're gonna have the Eps, GNs, and Webisodes this season, how are we going to arrange them on the Main page? Personaly, I'd go for all three in the left hand column below the welcome message. -- 10:26, 15 September 2008 (EDT)
*** Yeah, and if you're looking for order, I would suggest eps first, then webisodes, then GNs. If that takes up too much room, the DYK section can be trimmed or hidden--it's really just filler anyway. -- 10:45, 15 September 2008 (EDT)

I combined the languagebar with the mediabar since the language bar was looking kind of skimpy. I think we need to archive everyone's character history into Season One and Season Two, like we've done with all the main characters. Thoughts?--Citizen 09:00, 25 September 2008 (EDT)

* Looks good to me! (Admin (talk) 17:00, 8 April 2015 (EDT))
** Yeah, I don't see any reason to archive Meredith's history or Nidia's history, for example. -- 15:35, 25 September 2008 (EDT)
***We should archive only for characters who have been in more than one season. It makes the wiki look better and more organized.--Citizen 16:26, 25 September 2008 (EDT)
****Ditto. Also, I think we should write the summary for seasons chronologically. For example, in the Haitian's article, the summary for the It Takes a Village arc was put behind the summary for the episodes in the Season 1 summary. It'd be less confusing for others if we put it in front of the season 1 episodic history. Chrisyu357 03:21, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
***** I definitely don't think we should archive all characters who are in multiple seasons. For instance, Kin Egami appeared in two seasons, but it would be ridiculous to archive what amounts to about ten lines of history. I do think we should simply take characters who have appeared (or been mentioned) a lot and look at them on a case-by-case situation. If their pages are long and they look like they'll be back for another round of episodes in an upcoming season, then we'll archive their page. If they're at the end of their run (hello, Isaac!) then their pages can remain a little long. Hence, characters like Monica Dawson and Elle Bishop really don't need to be archived. In fact, I think their pages should be restored and the archives deleted. All it amounts to is an extra click for people who want to read about that character. -- 04:11, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
******We all know Heroes has graphic novels, and writing character histories in chronological order would make this a richer wiki. We're wasting that opportunity by not even referencing the GN events in some of the character season histories. Also, we don't have to archive EVERYONE'S histories, only the main character's histories. Kin's Season One and Season Two histories would just go on the article.--Citizen 23:31, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
******* I don't think we're talking about the same thing. I was talking about taking the character histories and putting them (or not putting them) on a separate page at the end of the season. I think you're talking about including graphic novels in those summaries, and about making the summaries chronological. :) -- 23:35, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
*I edited Kin's page to look like this (I reverted it immediately). Does that look sloppy or ridiculous to you? We can make it so that only the characters that have been in Portal:Main Characters and/or have been in more than one season have archived histories. Also, making the summaries chronological wouldn't be a bad idea. Imagine how awesome Adam's page would look like :).--Citizen 23:41, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
** It seems pointless to me. Why generalize the season instead of being specific with the episode? And as awesome as Adam's page would be, imaging how confusing Hiro's page would be--do we start with the 1671 stuff, or do we start with him learning of his abilities in October 2006? And think about how screwed up pages like Gael's would be, where he dies around March 20, 2007, and then hires Donna shortly thereafter. Hmm... And what about those events that are in an unspecified future or an unspecified time in the past? Good luck trying to sort those out! :) No, I definitely don't think organizing events in chronological order is a good idea. I think it opens us up for a ton of speculation and confusingly written articles, not to mention the 200+ articles that would have to be reformatted (and that's if we only do the character articles and not the items, places, locations, etc.) -- 00:20, 29 September 2008 (EDT)
** This discussion sounds familiar to me. I know the question of why we order the information by episode/graphic novel has come up a few times before and ordering the events chronologically cause the problems Ryan mentioned plus makes it more difficult for those who may not be up to date on the episodes (like people in other countries) to sort through the information they're supposed to know already. (Admin 00:25, 29 September 2008 (EDT))

Punctuation of episodes and graphic novels
I don't think they should all be italicized. The title of a show (Heroes) or a book (Saving Charlie) can be, but an episode ("Angels and Monsters") or a comic ("Resistance") should have quotes. Therequiembellishere 19:56, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
* That's the way we've always done it here, so we're following that format (italics instead of quotes) for consistency.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:00, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
** I've noticed, its just that it's incorrect. I know we can change them all en masse, but is there a way to, er, stop italicising? Therequiembellishere 20:02, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
*** It's not incorrect; it's just our own formatting. Just like there's MLA and AP style/formatting, we have our own format guidelines for the wiki. Help:Style details many of those guidelines. However, they are open to debate and suggestions for improvement. If there does need to be a global change, Admin might be able to do so using a bot.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:20, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
**** I don't see any reason for a change. Some styles dictate that episodes titles are italicized, some dictate that they are put in quotation marks. In fact, some styles dictate that even the titles of television shows are put in quotation marks rather than italicized. Miami is right--it's a matter of choice. I'm used to the way we do things here so it bugs me to see other styles on other sites, but that doesn't make them wrong. Likewise, just because our style differs from the styles of some other sites, that doesn't mean ours is wrong. There are many accepted formatting guidelines. -- 20:43, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
***** Okay, I just always learned it the way I talked about above. Therequiembellishere 21:01, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
****** Actually, so did I! It wasn't until I was much older and actually out of college that I learned there are multiple acceptable ways of formatting italics/quotation marks/etc. -- 21:25, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
******* Okay, good. Didn't want to have had crazy teachers for the last eleven years of my life! New tagline for the site: Heroes Wiki - An Educational Fansite Therequiembellishere

Am I seeing the main page differently to everyone else?
I have tried it on two browsers and on both there is a huge space at the bottom right when people shorten the trivia. Is this because people have got adds switched off? If so people with them on should probably get priority.--Skywalkerrbf 09:25, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
*I don't have ads switched off, yet for me (as of current revision, without a trimmed DYK), the DYK is waaaaaaayyy too long. Radicell 09:26, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
**Hmm I wonder why this is? I think the easiest thing to do would be to go half way. I will trim it from how it is now so that it is not like too short and then you can tell me if it is still too long for you. Is the Heroes Evolutions on the right for you?--Skywalkerrbf 09:29, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
***There. It is now like really short for me, how is it for you?--Skywalkerrbf 09:30, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
****It looks better now, there's still a small blue space since the Heroes Evolutions on the left ends slightly shorter than the DYK at the right. But it was better than before. How does it look for you? Radicell 09:31, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
*****Theres a gap as big as the last 3 DYK but if it is not like that for everyone else then i don't mind.--Skywalkerrbf 09:36, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
****** Different people use different browsers, and different computers are different widths. I have seen full screen, wide screen, and something I can only describe as super wide screen. Each individual screen width, browser type, and font size will change the way a page's layout looks--the main page being a prime page for differences. There's no way to make it perfect for everybody, unfortunately. I'm checking it on two different browsers on two different computers, and both look alright to me. There's a bit of space here and there, but it's generally pretty good right now. -- 13:17, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
******* Earlier the latest episode summary was the full article, and all the boxes were in one big column. Now it's fixed though. -- Hyperdude 13:05, 25 October 2008 (EDT)

Ads
May I suggest doing what Wikia, another wiki-hosting site does, and only showing ads for unregistered users? The ads are blocked for users as soon as they sign in or register. This method would also help people to register. Again, these are just suggestions, and they seem to work very well for Wikia. I just thought I would bring them up. Thanks. Freakatone 21:33, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
* Hey, Freakatone, thanks for the suggestion. :) Since we don't ask for any external funding and we donate much of our revenue to charity, I think a few ads (2 on the main page and 1 on the rest now) are a small price for us all to pay whether registered or not. It's such a simple and passive way to help out. I know a lot of frequent visitors specifically turn off ad blocking for this site in order to help out and it's definitely appreciated. (Admin 21:37, 19 October 2008 (EDT))

****** And, well... then I'll seventh :) --Pierre 20:14, 22 October 2008 (EDT)
* They were originally not supposed to be taken from places like tv guide, but instead summarized and de-spoiled. I thought they were nice, but it seems like they're not worth maintaining spoiler-free. (Admin 19:28, 22 October 2008 (EDT))
** I'll just go ahead and remove it. The link that's there points to the episode page, and the smaller link goes directly to the spoiler page. Plus, it'll clean up the page a bit. -- 21:18, 22 October 2008 (EDT)
*** How about a little countdown box on the side somewhere that'll say "Dying Of the Light airs in UK in 3 days!" and stuff like that. No more information revealed, just the title and where it airs. Thoughts? --Isaac Mendez 07:43, 28 October 2008 (EDT)

Popups?
I've been experience an increase of popups occurring on this site... does this have something to do with the new advertisements? They all seem to be advertising something like "Take this survey now"... etc. And my popup blocker doesn't seem to be able to block them either. <small>Sincerely, Thrashmeister [ U | T | C ]</small> 11:08, 24 October 2008 (EDT)
* I've seen them, too; they're very annoying. Yes, it's related to the new ads. I'm talking to the people at NBC to try to get rid of them. (Admin 11:10, 24 October 2008 (EDT))
* Until it can get pulled, try clicking on the popup and then clicking the "No thanks" link on the following page. I did that before and I stopped getting them. Then once I cleared out the cookie it added I started getting them again, so I think the survey is honoring the "No thanks" response. (Admin 13:49, 24 October 2008 (EDT))
