==Notes==
* Nathan's assassination by an unknown assailant ending the volume as a cliffhanger is a clear reference to the "Who Shot J.R.?" mystery concerning the television show ''Dallas''. At the end of the 1970-1980 season of ''Dallas'', the character J.R. Ewing was shot by an unknown assassin. The assassin's true identity was not revealed for several months, and the cliffhanger is widely considered to be one of the most successful television stunts.

In the middle of a speech, Nathan is shot and killed by an unknown assassin.

Character History

Powerless

At a press conference, Nathan, at the podium, flanked by Matt and Peter, introduces himself as a former New York Congressman. He also goes on to say that there are many seemingly ordinary people in our world who have extraordinary abilities. He also says that there are other people, other organizations, who are working against those people. Finally, he starts to reveal his ability of flight, when in mid-sentence, he is shot twice in the chest by an unknown assassin. Chaos and cacophony erupt in the press room as Nathan falls to the ground. Peter catches him, and with his last breath, Nathan mouths "Peter" and dies.

Later, Angela Petrelli is watching a news report on the assassination of her son.
