Maarten is Carlos Mendez.	Carlos bears a resemblance to Maarten	+ Carlos was a member of the Group of Twelve. + Maarten worked for the Company and many of the members of the group of twelve have been involved with the Company. - He would have no reason to change his name during his work with the company, the different names indicate that they're different people. + Maarten could just as easily be a nickname. - The artist Travis Kotzebue said that his brother Jordan was the model for Maarten, but Travis "put a cool Burt Reynolds mustache on him". If Maarten was the same person as Carlos, he would've used the actor playing Carlos as the model, not his brother. + The actor could be portraying an older version of Carlos Mendez. Maarten could represent what he looked like at the time.
Maarten is related to Meredith and Flint.	All of them have pyrokinesis.	+ That could be why Maarten is working for the Company, so it leaves his special kids alone, even if the Company doesn't keep its promises. • Flint and Meredith's father perished in a fire, if Marteen is related to them, he's not their father. + Pyrokenetics are immune to fire.
