Here's what I'm seeing on any page where this image is used as a thumbnail. It's fine on Mr. Petrelli, but I keep getting error messages on the portal pages, etc. What's weirder is that I wasn't getting any such messages an hour ago, only after the image was reuploaded. Anybody have any ideas? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:49, 18 October 2007 (EDT)

  • For one thing, the file is freakin' huge. A 200x250 JPG at 147kb? Something's not right. I'll try saving it and reupping it.--Hardvice (talk) 21:58, 18 October 2007 (EDT)
    • I figured it out, I uploaded it as a bmp not a jpg....duh. I'll re-up it as a jpg. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 10/18/2007 21:58 (EST)
    • Ah, it's not actually a JPG. It's a BMP. The file is called "Mr petrelli.jpg.bmp".--Hardvice (talk) 21:59, 18 October 2007 (EDT)
      • Just re-upped it. Sorry you guys didn't prefer the new jpg.bmp format....Am I the first knucklehead to do that manuever? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 10/18/2007 22:01 (EST)
        • BTW New thumb....

          • It works for me now, thanks. 33 KB is much more normal, too. Incidentally, what exactly do I need to change on my image program (I use Gimp) to make my file sizes smaller? Is it my x and y resolution? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:03, 18 October 2007 (EDT)
            • Usually, it's the JPG compression. I don't have Gimp, but look for an option during save. It's usually expressed as a percentage.--Hardvice (talk) 22:07, 18 October 2007 (EDT)
              • Thanks. I had it set at 100%, which churned out the 75 KB image above. Sliding down to 85% reduced the size to 31 KB. I don't see a difference in quality, so I guess I'll stay at 85% from now on. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:18, 18 October 2007 (EDT)
          • It's really not much of a problem, except that the file size is big and the thumbnail scaler doesn't work. At least now we know they don't scale. No harm, no foul, and we learned something new.--Hardvice (talk) 22:06, 18 October 2007 (EDT)
