Mini-Imagemaps
- Maybe I've just got imagemaps on the brain, but what would people think of doing imagemaps (like template:Locationmap) for individual states/countries that have more than one place, and sticking them on the disambigs?--Hardvice (talk) 23:31, 17 October 2007 (EDT)
- I was thinking the same thing after our conversation about Mexico. It's a lot of images, but I think it's worth it. It's also nice that the needed pages are generally found in category:location (disambig). -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:33, 17 October 2007 (EDT)
- Yeah, there's definitely value in it. People can see how close Primm and Las Vegas are, etc. The trouble is going to be fictional places like Costa Verde and San Cristobal.--Hardvice (talk) 23:54, 17 October 2007 (EDT)
- Do you have something in mind for images? Wikipedia:Blank maps has some good images, but they're small. The images they use to show locations (Wikipedia:Image:Map of USA LA.svg) are good, but I don't necessarily think we need the entire country (or world, in the case of country images). On the other hand, I don't want just the state, either. Maybe a cropped version of the Wikipedia image, only it wouldn't work because it's too small. Any other suggestions? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:24, 18 October 2007 (EDT)
- I looked for a bit last night. Royalty-free, license-free maps are hard to come by. We may have to use WP's.--Hardvice (talk) 23:16, 18 October 2007 (EDT)
- Yeah, I suppose you're right. The individual state maps (Wikipedia:Image:Louisiana Locator Map.PNG aren't bad, but I don't like the county dividers. Oh well. The country maps (Wikipedia:Image:Mexico map, MX-PUE.svg) are less than ideal, but usable. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:57, 18 October 2007 (EDT)
- The county/parrish dividers are a bit annoying, but they will at least make it easy to locate cities, I guess. I'll steal one and try it out and we can decide from that if it's worth pursuing.--Hardvice (talk) 00:10, 19 October 2007 (EDT)
- Actually, chasing that map back to its source at the US Census site (and thus copyright free), you can actually custom configure what's included on the maps. Sweet.--Hardvice (talk) 00:13, 19 October 2007 (EDT)
