James Rains was a previously a normal teenager, until he realised he had the ability to take powers from people. After discovering his parents (One of which being Claude Rains, a worker of the company) had abilities themselves, a strange alternate personality of James, 'Syren', cropped up, and took control of the boy. He killed his parents and stole their abilities. He has been in search of new abilities since, and after discovering the existance of 'Sylar', he travelled to America to find him.
Syren has the ability of Intuitive aptitude. The powers he has stolen so far have been:
- Flight (from Donna Wilson)
- Invisibility (from Claude Rains)
- Phasing (from unknown victim)
- Technopathy (from unknown victim)
