Doctor and Reporter

• Could someone confirm I got the names of the deceased doctor (Robert Fresca) and the reporter (Oliver Dennison) correct before we setup articles for them? That's what their names sounded like to me, but I didn't check the credits for the reporter and haven't seen the doctor's name in writing yet. (Admin 02:57, 7 November 2006 (EST))
  • Matt's partner is Tom McHenry, per the new graphic novel. The reporter is definitely Oliver Dennison. The oncologist is a bit tricky: when Audrey says it, it definitely sounds like "Robert Fresco", but when Ted says it its sounds more like "Robert Fresca".--Hardvice (talk) 05:42, 7 November 2006 (EST)

Nathan's conversation with Mr. Linderman

• In the article for this episode it states:

Nathan speaks on the phone to Mr. Linderman regarding the painting Peter was asking about. He tells Mr. Linderman not to let Peter get the painting.

• Here's a transcript of what Nathan says on the phone:

Yes Mr. Linderman. It seems my brother has developed some sort of emotional attachment to this painting. I don't know what will happen to him if he doesn't get it but I'd rather not find out. Directly to the gallery. Mr. Linderman, I...I appreciate it. Good night.

• My interpretation of this is that he is trying to get Peter the painting, not trying to stop him from getting it. I guess it's how you interpret the triple negative (don't know/doesn't get/rather not). I'm not sure how you guys feel. Dadadave 20:53, 7 November 2006 (EST)
  • What I heard was "I dont know what will happen to him if he does get it, but I'd rather not find out." implying that Nathan is convincing Mr. Linderman to keep it away from Peter. I'll give it another listen, though. (Admin 20:57, 7 November 2006 (EST))
  • I listened to it a few more times and it is sort of unclear what he says. I'm still leaning towards "doesn't". I wonder what other people hear. Maybe they muffled the sound on purpose so we are supposed to be confused? If you go by my interpretation, the subsequent plot is confusing. First Nathan says "I appreciate it" as if Mr. Linderman will help Nathan. But then when Nathan goes over to Peter's place he tells Peter that Mr. Linderman is "not going to let it go". I think Admin's interpretation makes more sense plotwise but again, that's not I'm hearing him say on the phone so I'm confused.Dadadave 21:09, 7 November 2006 (EST)
  • You're right, I do hear "if he doesn't get it." I was wrong, it seems pretty clear on my recording that he says "doesn't". So the way I interpret this scene is that Nathan tries to ask Mr. Linderman for the painting, but Linderman tells him it's been sent to the gallery and then Nathan just thanks him for trying to help. Then in the following scene Nathan knows Linderman won't give up the painting so he tries to tell Peter to just forget it. (Admin 01:06, 8 November 2006 (EST))
    • I actually got the impression that Linderman is going to send it to "the gallery", but that Nathan wants to check it out for himself first, so he told Peter he couldn't get it.--Hardvice (talk) 01:40, 8 November 2006 (EST)
    • Hardvice's interpretation sounds reasonable to me. It is strange if you think about it why "directly to the gallery" is interpreted by Nathan as "not going to let it go" especially in light of the intonation when Nathan says "I appreciate it". It sounds to me like he's thanking Linderman for helping him, as if Linderman is saying, "Sure he can see it. It's at the gallery."

  I think there's really only two logical conclusions one can make from this exchange. Either a) As Hardvice says, Nathan lies to Peter for reasons we don't know or b) "the gallery" is a special gallery which only Linderman has access too and won't allow others in to see whatever it is he has in there. However we know Nathan isn't one to tell the truth to anyone unless he gains something selfishly from it. And the way Nathan says "I appreciate it" makes me believe Linderman wants to help.Dadadave 05:13, 8 November 2006 (EST)
