This wiki is a XML full dump clone of "Heroes Wiki", the main wiki about the Heroes saga that has been shut down permanently since June 1, 2020. The purpose of this wiki is to keep online an exhaustive and accurate database about the franchise.

Not much to say about me. I set up the site and I'm a big fan of this show! Just here to offer a guiding hand and help keep the info fresh, the real praise for this site goes to all of you making contributions. You're the ones making this site so great! :)

If you want to reach me for anything, just post to my talk page.

If you're interested in website hosting, please check out my company Colynx, LLC. If you'd like to register or transfer a domain (which extends your registration by an extra year) for $7/yr then you can setup an account here. You can register/transfer as many domains as you want at this price.

Free wiki hosting with profit sharing

  • If you have an idea for a fan wiki for a new show or other form of entertainment, feel free to let me know. If there's potential, we'll host your wiki for free with your own dedicated domain name. You'll be an administrator (and bureaucrat) and be able to manage the wiki and appoint your own administrative staff. Any advertising revenue earned through Google Ads beyond the first $50/month will be yours to do with as you please. In order to be accepted your wiki should be one of the first for the particular theme and you should be dedicated to making sure it is successful. All languages are welcome! Leave a message on my talk page if you are interested.

Suggested Reading

  • About this site. Some general rules of thumb and info about this site. Mostly a high-level overview.
  • If you're going to be editing articles, definitely check this out beforehand. It'll give you a better idea how we do things around here. :)

Tips

  • To automatically strip off a namespace when creating a link, just end with the pipe. ex. [[User talk:Admin|]] displays as Admin and links to User talk:Admin.

Am I adding a theory?

When contributing to an article here are some red flags that should alert you that your contribution may in fact be a theory and needs to be placed in the Theories section instead:

  • Your text includes words such as: probably, maybe, possibly, likely. If you're not sure something is true then feel free to discuss it on the article's talk page. If it's true then it can be added to the article. If there's not enough proof then it's a Theory.

...more to come...

To-do list

(If anyone feels like knocking these out first, be my guest. Otherwise I'll get to them)

  • Investigate creating "Episode" template to make adding episodes easy and uniform. (Thanks, Hardvice!)
  • Rename category Heroes' Wiki Contributor to Heroes Wiki Contributor and update user pages with new category name to match the proper name of the wiki. (Thanks, Hardvice!)
  • For any articles using HTML in them change any hardcoded references to http://heroeswiki.com/ over to {{SERVER}}/ so that the URLs will be relative.
  • Create {{AfD}} template that automatically includes Category:Articles for Deletion and adds a warning at the top of the article to see the Talk page to comment on the nomination. (Thanks yet again, Hardvice! :) )
  • Reconfigure to run php4 as cgi and php5 as apache module (currently the other way around) since Heroes Wiki uses php5 and it's the most active site on the server. (This one's all me.)(All done!)
  • Configure Squid to cache articles to reduce load during peak days (load isn't too bad during peak now, but this will help the site scale).

Trivia

  • My primary workstation runs Fedora Core 6 (a version of GNU/Linux). Oddly enough the new Fedora logo looks a little like The Symbol. Hmmmmm. I also have a MacBook Pro I use sometimes.
  • I'm a RedHat Certified Engineer and will be working towards RedHat Certified Architect this year (24 cumulative hours of lab tests that I'm actually looking forward to!)
  • Google flew me out to their headquarters in Mountain View to interview me.
  • I own a Tivo and can't imagine how I got by without it for so long.
  • I enjoy playing tennis (when it's warm out).
  • The farthest I've ever been outside of the US was configuring a router in China over telnet. (I guess that doesn't count, eh?)
  • I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment that comes with unclogging a toilet thereby saving the day.
  • I have a degree in computer science with a focus on Internet technology. Is it wrong that this piece of trivia comes after the toilet one? hmm.
