About Me

Hi there!

Before you ask, no, my username isn't something kinky. It's an anagram.

My name is Dave and I'm from Austin, TX. I'm a recent law school graduate. Some other places to find me on the Internet:

Trivia

  • I grew up in New York, Germany, England, and Texas. I have to try very, very hard not to use English spellings since I learned to read and write in England.
  • I routinely confuse Sinclair Lewis with Upton Sinclair, Joss Whedon with Joss Stone, Andy Rooney with Mickey Rooney (and Mickey Rooney with Mickey O'Rourke), and perhaps oddest of all, Robert Heinlein with Isaac Asimov.
  • Some movies and TV shows you probably like with which I just don't see the fascination: any and all anime, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I liked the movie, but then again it had Peewee in it) and its ilk, Firefly and its ilk, 24, anything with CSI in the title, Battlestar Galactica (which I would like had I not grown up on the original), most reality television
  • Favorite television shows: Heroes (duh), any and all Star Trek, Good Eats, Project Runway, Desperate Housewives, and that's about it.
    • I have never owned my own television, though I used to have a TV card on my computer. There are currently 2 televisions for every human in my home, including a 110-inch projector. Go figure.
    • This isn't really a matter of pretentiousness. I don't think disliking television makes me cool. In Germany, we had one English language channel (run by the military, their idea of content was things like last year's World Series), and in England we only had four channels (and despite what PBS might make you think, most of the programming was crap--it's not all Monty Python and Fawlty Towers. A lot of it's Basil Brush and bad game shows.) Six formative years spent without television will put you out of the habit, trust me.
  • Favorite music: just about anything, but I particularly like the Pet Shop Boys and lots of truly terrible college buttrock (y'know, the kind of crap that ends up on a Madden or Burnout soundtrack. Anything from people with silly hair and either daddy issues or a hipster complex.)
  • Favorite authors: James Faulkner, Philip Roth, Tibor Fischer, Douglas Adams, Ayn Rand, Robert Heinlein, Christopher Moore, Christopher Rice, Neil Gaiman
    • Most overrated author of all time: John Steinbeck. Ugh.
  • Other fandoms I'm tangentially involved in: James Bond (my cell number ends in "007"), Star Trek, various comic books
  • Fandoms I refuse to become even tangentially involved in, despite liking the books and films: Harry Potter ('shippers of prepubescent children frighten me), Lord of the Rings (have re-read 'em every year since I was 12), Star Wars (too sacred to deal with most fans)
  • Favorite hobby: cooking.
  • Foods I will not eat: mayonnaise (unless homemade, and then only with trepidation), sour cream
  • Job history while in college: selling comics, selling porn, selling coffee. Most disturbing aspect of said jobs: carryover customers from all three.
  • Reason I got into Wikis: correcting typos (I do this with books, too--even library books).
  • Words I cannot pronounce properly: South (I say "selth" for some reason).
  • Strangest phrase I've ever said: "Stop raping your brother while he's peeing". Said to a dog, fortunately.
  • Reading fan forums and/or listening to fan podcasts generally makes me want to claw my own face off, but I do it anyway.

Miscellaneous Projects

Image Cleanup

  • Change {{image-promotional}} to {{image-imdb}} on images from IMdB
  • Try to find and standardize images for Category:Recurring themes, and complete the portal.
  • Clean out Category:Uncredited Images. Either find a source, or find a replacement image.
  • Standardize Place images at 450x350, not 400x350. That way, we'll only have four standard sizes: images for Prophecy (need to stay the way they are for layout purposes), episode images (which ought to stay full aspect ratio even if we make 'em bigger), portraits, and everything else.

Cast & Crew Cleanup

  • look for external links, websites, About sections on cast & crew pages
  • make sure actors have out-of-character images whenever possible. Use Template:nocastimage as needed

Character Cleanup

Theme Cleanup

  • Add analysis of the theme to make them more than just lists of occurrences. The show treats family very differently than a lot of shows, for example.
