Richard is a thief who, in 1985, entered the Bennets' home and murdered Kate Bennet, inducing a terrible vengeance into her husband. Richard is an evolved human with the ability to move objects with his mind.

Richard, posing as a Chinese food deliveryman, arrives at the Bennets' home and attacks its inhabitants. He pins Noah Bennet to the wall, who becomes unable to move, and continues on to steals money from Kate Bennet's purse. Before leaving, Richard flings Kate onto her glass table, impaling and killing her.
