:* This is a great idea. It should really clean out the [[Special:Unusedimages]] page. It just makes things a bit cleaner. - [[User:Ryangibsonstewart|RyanGibsonStewart]] ([[User talk:Ryangibsonstewart|talk]]) 15:11, 10 January 2007 (EST)

:* Took me a few minutes, but I just got what Hardvice was referring to. Not direct linking via URL, but direct linking via <nowiki>[[:Image:...]]</nowiki>. He's right, this will not mark an image as used. The best we can do is manually search through the Wiki to see if an image is being :linked, and then add it to the gallery just to get it out of the Special list. --[[User:Orne|Orne]] 15:14, 10 January 2007 (EST)

:**Right. I went through and looked for any images that I might know of that are embedded as described above, and I didn't see any. [[Special:Unusedimages]] looks pretty kosher to me now. - [[User:Ryangibsonstewart|RyanGibsonStewart]] ([[User talk:Ryangibsonstewart|talk]]) 15:41, 10 January 2007 (EST)

* If you think that's where it should go, I don't have a problem with it. --[[User:Orne|Orne]] 14:42, 12 January 2007 (EST)

Files can also be linked to rather than displayed, and they'll show up as unused as well.--Hardvice (talk) 14:19, 10 January 2007 (EST)

  • Yes... in that case, I'd hope that someone tags the image text as such.
  1. If we have an article that URL-links to an image within HeroesWiki (or a language derivative), then we can just add the [[Image:...]] here and it'll get out of the Unused list.
  2. If the link is from outside of HeroesWiki domain, call me mean, but I don't think we would want them to mooch bandwidth without getting the associated Article/Advertisements.
Having dealt with this before, all I'm really asking for is to have the user put a note that they are direct linking to the file in the wiki text space, and then we can at least know that the image is being used. My only intent is to use the Special page's capability to locate stray images. --Orne 14:35, 10 January 2007 (EST)
