About Me

Hi there!

Before you ask, no, my username isn't something kinky. It's an anagram.

My name is Dave and I'm from Austin, TX. I'm a recent law school graduate. Some other places to find me on the Internet:

...all under the same username. The only place I use a different username is on TOW where I'm "ImHardviceonED" (long story).==Some Links==

Articles Needing Rewrites

  • Wikipedia Reprints -- seems to be empty
  • Stubs
  • Standardise format on "Character History" section of main characters
  • Check verb tense (should all be present) & perspective (should maintain third person) on episodes and character histories

About Style

  • Until I hear otherwise from an admin, I like to keep any synopsis or descriptive sections of articles in the third person and in an in-world perspective (meaning no references to "we" the viewers, "in this episode", scenes, "after the commercial break", etc.) and to save any real-world information for notes, trivia, and theories sections and the like. This is a fairly standard convention at other fan wikis; the idea, basically, is that the bulk of the wiki should look like an extremely thorough, totally omniscient encyclopedia written by someone living in the world in which the series takes place. It also makes for less awkward language. Obviously, some references to episodes by name will be necessary for clarity, but when possible I like to keep these either parenthetical (i.e. citations) or structural (i.e. section titles).
  • I also like to maintain a consistent present verb tense throughout the "encyclopediac" portions of articles unless the events being described actually happened in the future or the past relative to the point in time being discussed. For example, I'd say "Niki wakes up (present tense) to find that Linderman's thugs have been mutilated (past tense)." (Well, technically, the passive past perfect, but close enough). In this case, since Linderman's thugs have already been killed at this point in the episode, I'd use the past tense, but I wouldn't say "Peter woke up and painted a mustache on Simone's face" because it's confusing to use the past tense during a narrative—you lose track of what's happening at the moment. The present tense provides sequence and chronology to events. This will prove especially helpful in a series involving time travel, I'm guessing.
  • The bottom line is that if I edit an article you've worked on for either of these two style concerns, please don't take offense. I am not wikistalking you and I have no problem with what you've written ... I'm just anal about consistency. In the long run, it may make us look more professional, and in the short run, it satisfies my Type A urges.
