Alex Woolsly is attending a swimming competition. As he wins, his parents jump up and cheer. While Alex's sister is not interested at all, his father proudly says that he "didn't even come up for a breath."

The Agent

In chapter 3 of The Agent, Dave surprises Rachel Mills with a gun to her back. He tells her that he heard about the confrontation at Sam's Comics, and that he wants to know who is after Alex. Rachel tells him that he is not at liberty to discuss this, and runs away, only to hear the sound of a 12-gauge shell chambering. She turns around and sees Dave aiming the gun at her, and Jason, observing from a distance, tells her to look out.
