As Sylar moves across the country, he is leaving a growing number of victims.

Additionally, some victims are then decapitated, and their brains removed. The purpose for this act is currently unknown.

Mohinder Suresh discovers that Sylar owns an extensive collection of autopsy books in his apartment. It is implied that Sylar is perfecting his technique.
Not every victim is killed in this manner, possibly indicating Sylar is targeting evolved humans for brain removal.

Audrey Hanson had mistakenly attributed the death of Dr. Robert Fresco to Sylar in Nothing to Hide.

Sylar also possesses the power of cryokinetics (the ability to control temperature) and is using it to kill by freezing his victims.
- If true, then he is the only evolved human that has been shown to have more than one major power.
Sylar is stealing the brains of evolved humans in order to incorporate their abilities into himself.
