Talk:Portal:Theories about Abilities
power development?
How about a article about the possible development of any power?
Rift
Why is there a separate article for rift and time/space manipulation? Technically rift is a theory about time travel; the theory that time travelling can cause a rift. - FlamingTomDude 12:48, 7 November 2008 (EDT)
- Actually, there's theories in rifts that not only time travelling can cause them. There's both temporal and spatial rifts. The vortexes Stephen Canfield made are a kind of spatial rift, imho.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:58, 7 November 2008 (EST)
Grand Unifying Theory
This would be the place for a GUT, right? Here's a brainstorm I just had;
All abilities have a downside. PERIOD.
All abilities reside in the brain. Resources devoted to an ability are resources not applied to conventional thought processes; memory, comprehension, etc. The more complex the ability, the more resources it draws.
Simple "zap" abilities have almost negligible effects on their users, who tend to use those abilities in imaginative ways. Complex Swiss Army abilities tend to make their users gullible, short-sighted and downright reckless.
All Nathan does is fly, and he's a cunning little weasel. Peter seemed to get less intelligent each time he began using a new ability freely.
This is perhaps just conjecture and justification for plot-driven stupidity(If characters with really impressive and/or lots of powers used them intelligently, multiple seasons of plotlines would be resolved per episode), but it would explain a lot. Kalaong 13:26, 3 February 2009 (EST)
