Talk:Portal:Characters/Season One
Extra space
Each of these 5 cells has an extra unused space on the bottom (underneath the text). Necessary? Is this for aesthetics or consistency? Or just an oversight? - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:09, 5 January 2007 (EST)
- It was originally for consistency with the subpages, but I don't think it's necessary. Portal:Guest Cast uses two rows and looks just fine.--Hardvice (talk) 17:28, 5 January 2007 (EST)
- There you go, I removed the extra space. I think it looks fine. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:12, 5 January 2007 (EST)
Deceased
- I added a deceased tag to the character template. See it in action here (probably only partially works on older browsers). Anybody think this is worth using?--Hardvice (talk) 03:46, 23 February 2007 (EST)
- Wow, that's actually pretty cool ... but, no, I don't think it's necessary. The focus of the page then becomes who's dead and who's not, rather than just a list of characters. I'm not totally against it, I just think it's distracting. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:14, 23 February 2007 (EST)
- My concern is that, on pages like Main Characters and Supporting Characters, people will start jawing about OMG WHY IS SIMONE STILL LISTED AS A MAIN CHARACTER SHE'S BEEN DEAD FOR 2 SEASONS or something.--Hardvice (talk) 12:50, 23 February 2007 (EST)
- Oh, yeah, you're right, I wasn't really thinking of the future. You know, I think it would be better if we left the name as is (take out the
strike), and leave it as a faded image. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:21, 23 February 2007 (EST)- We should definitely do something to the name, though (maybe gray text?) because old browsers don't support image opacity through CSS.--Hardvice (talk) 15:51, 23 February 2007 (EST)
- Sounds right to me. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:41, 23 February 2007 (EST)
- Maybe we could put (Deceased) under the name Heroe 20:03, 23 February 2007 (EST)
- That would require changing the size of the boxes using extra nonlinktext on the live characters, but it could work.--Hardvice (talk) 20:09, 23 February 2007 (EST)
- The italicized name seems like the perfect solution. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:26, 23 February 2007 (EST)

Characters' bios
Anyone thinking about changing the characters' bio formats so that they read more like a description of who they are and not a blow-by-blow account of all the scenes they've been in?
I'm not a regular contributor here, but maybe I could help. Now that there will be a hiatus of several weeks might be the time to do it? Renenarciso 20:23, 6 March 2007 (EST)
- That was brought up during the last hiatus. Though it hasn't been officially decided, what we'll probably do is let the pages get nice and long for the season, and then trim them. The long history will most likely be moved to a new page, and replaced on the main page with a strong "About" section or a history of important events, not every detail. Short answer: we'll wait until the end of the season to make big changes. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:26, 8 March 2007 (EST)
- Okay. :) Makes sense. One idea to consider when the big change is done would be to break events in the biographies by story arc instead of by episode. Renenarciso 11:47, 11 March 2007 (EDT)
- I don't think we have ever really had a big group discussion about how we're going to make the changes (and it's not really necessary to have that discussion yet, per se), but I like that idea. Personally, I think a couple of really good paragraph would fit the bill.... But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:10, 11 March 2007 (EDT)
- I was thinking of more of a one-or-two paragraph summary of the season (a lot like the summaries on the episodes--very brief and very general) with a link to the archived history. We have to remember that even if we reduce the monster history to 1/3 of its size, it's just going to bloat up again next season (except for Simone ... sniff), so IMO shorter is better for the summaries, particularly when the full history is still available.--Hardvice (talk) 14:48, 11 March 2007 (EDT)
- Agree. That's kinda what I was envisioning, too. Sort of a character history version of the powers examples. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:57, 11 March 2007 (EDT)

The Many - an older generation of superfriends
- We are starting to hear several in-show references to an earlier generation of evolved humans that worked together. Can we start a page to summarize some of the key quotes and hints regarding this group? For example,
- Kaito Nakamura - in Landslide Kaito tells Hiro some things that indicate Kaito has been involved with evolved humans for some time
- Linderman - in .07%, Linderman speaks of a time when he and other evolved humans worked together to make the world better until some of them became greedy; in Landslide | Linderman reveals to Nathan that Nathan's father was "one of us" who gave up., I don't think Linderman meant evolved humans by "one of us", I think he was referring to this group.
- Mr. Petrelli - knows Linderman from Nam, and both form a partership based on the idea tha |"great men are willing to make a sacrifice to save the world"
- Angela Petrelli - knows [[Linderman] and his plan for Nathan per the Hard Part. |She reveals that she knew the details of the plan long before he did, and that it is not just Linderman's plan, but the work of many. This begs the question, who are the many?
- I suggest we name this unnamed group to provide a page, then add a redirect when the canon names it. --AverageMan 15:33, 18 May 2007 (EDT)
- It's worth thinking about, but it's pretty strongly implied that this group grew into The Company (what with Kaito's and Linderman's involvement in the Company, and the whole Lonestar File thing). If that's the case, as it almost certainly is, then whatever history the group had would belong on The Company.--Hardvice (talk) 15:47, 18 May 2007 (EDT)
When do we want to say Season 1 ends?
For the purpose of character/group histories, does Season 1 end after GN: The Death of Hana Gitelman, Part 2, or when the first episode of Season 2 airs? There is supposed to be a bunch of Heroes graphic novels over the summer. I vote for the former. What's the consensus?--MiamiVolts (talk) 12:31, 21 May 2007 (EDT)
- It depends on what happens with the Graphic Novels over the summer. Reportedly, they're going to focus on a lot of new characters and fill in background for some of the supporting characters like the Haitian. If that's the case, we won't need to archive everybody until much closer to season 2. If it's not the case, then we might want to do so earlier.--Hardvice (talk) 13:30, 21 May 2007 (EDT)
season 2 prep?
I brought this up in at the Cast talk page but It needs to be considered here and elsewhere, too; What's going to happen to this to make it ready for season 2? --SacValleyDweller 16:41, 2 September 2007 (EDT)
- I assume the current portals will get moved to a subportal, something like 'Season One Characters' and new portals will get made. Some of the chars from season one will be gone from season two, others will continue but most will be new.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:45, 2 September 2007 (EDT)
- Sounds about right to me, except I'd personally do it as a subpage of the portal ("Portal:Characters/Season One") because it fits with how we've been archiving other S1 stuff. But I'm not tied to that idea. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:48, 2 September 2007 (EDT)
- Exactly, we can move "Portal:Characters" to "Portal:Characters/Season One", then remake "Portal:Characters" to have links [[Portal:Characters/Season One|Season One Characters]] and [[Portal:Characters/Season Two|Season Two Characters]].--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:05, 2 September 2007 (EDT)
- So, are these under construction yet or are we holding off until later to throw it all together?--SacValleyDweller 17:22, 2 September 2007 (EDT)

Missing Season 2 and Season 3 Characters Portal
Any reason why we have one for Season 1 charcters, but not season 2, or upcoming season 3? I had been digging around trying to find if we had anything yet for the newbie upcoming characters, and found that it looks like we never did one for the Season 2 newbies. Thoughts? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 09/12/2008 17:30 (EST)
- The main reason is that the entire character categories and portals is a mess IMO. See Category_talk:Characters#Suggestion_for_categorization_of_characters for the discussion. Pierre 17:50, 12 September 2008 (EDT)
- Season 3 hasn't started, so we don't know who is in each role. We didn't archive Season One until Season Two started, and we'll do it again. If you'd like, you can archive Season Two in the same way Season One is, and we'll leave the main portal the same until we establish recurring, supportive, minor and lead characters.--Bob (talk) 21:59, 12 September 2008 (EDT)
