Places and Locations?

I just noticed there's a "locations" portal and a "places" portal.. the names seem to mean the same thing. Perhaps this could the the "Cities" portal or something? :) --Frantik (Talk) 23:17, 3 March 2007 (EST)

  • Some are cities, some are states, and some (in the Graphic Novel version) are even countries. "Location" works well, since the navbar calls them "world locations".--Hardvice (talk) 23:29, 3 March 2007 (EST)
    • I didn't notice the non-cities.. but it still seems a bit funny to me that places means something different than locations *shrug* --Frantik (Talk) 05:15, 4 March 2007 (EST)
      • It is kind of a funny distinction to make, but they should be separated. Just think of "Locations" as "World Locations" (which is how it's listed on template:location) and you'll be fine. :) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:19, 4 March 2007 (EST)
      • It's really just an artifact of site history. Once upon a time, we had locations but not places. We talked about some other names for places, but never came up with anything that fit well and made the distinction clearer. "Sites" was considered, but made it sound like websites.--Hardvice (talk) 14:45, 4 March 2007 (EST)

reorganization

I made an attempt at reorganizing this portal, as it seems confusing the way it is: User:Alexwill/Portal:World_Locations I sepeerate "International Locations" and sorted them by country first, and into "United States Locations" and sorted by state first. It keeps it more regionally organized visually. Any one like the idea? Alex W (talk) 22:32, 25 May 2007 (EDT)

  • You did a nice job, but I don't see anything wrong or confusing with the way it is right now. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:36, 25 May 2007 (EDT)
