Episode sidebar

  • Could you make a copy of the sidebar and test changes with the copy so the testing doesn't impact the front page display of the sidebar? Thanks! :) (Admin 10:23, 6 March 2007 (EST))
    • Oops sorry.. but I think I got it now. :D I'll be sure to do that in the future though :) --Frantik (Talk) 10:25, 6 March 2007 (EST)

Peter vs. Sylar

Hey there. So we have that awesome picture you created of Sylar and Peter in the style of Street Fighters. Only problem is it's too big to go in an infobox or a portal (it should be 450x350). I tried fixing it up but kind of gave up because I don't know exactly how you made it. (Plus, it's a really wide shot, so it's hard to properly crop.) Any chance you could give it a shot? If you have any other ideas for some of the other Peter vs. Sylar images (this, this, this, or this), that's be great. Thanks, Frantik! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:41, 22 June 2007 (EDT)

  • Is Winter compatible with the ParserFunctions extension? It looks like both extensions define the function "if" for instance. (Admin 23:52, 17 August 2007 (EDT))
    • Yes they're compatible because they have slightly different syntaxes; specifically after the command, winter expects a pipe (|) while parser functions expect a colon (:). Eg Winter uses {{#if|... while the parser functions use {{#if:... --Frantik (Talk) 00:12, 18 August 2007 (EDT)
      • Gotcha. I'm testing it out now on a different wiki. So far so good and I really like the flexibility it provides. I'll probably wait until after season two airs to put it in here since I want to see what the wiki's performance looks like during high load periods without any more extensions than we're using now. Since you appear to be skilled writing extensions, I was thinking that a useful feature for MediaWiki would be to be able to view the wiki as it existed at a particular date. Since a wiki is essentially just a glorified revision control system it should be possible much in the same way you can do a cvs checkout based on a particular date. While it could be useful in a generic sense, the particular application I'm interested in is where you have countries that are behind the US in Heroes airings. With such a feature it would be possible to provide links for people in those countries where they would view the wiki as it existed after those episodes had originally aired in the US. Just a thought if it seems like a worthwhile project. :) I figured if no one else writes it eventually I'll break down and write it myself. :) (Admin 00:35, 18 August 2007 (EDT))
        • Cool glad you like it I totally understand how on such a busy wiki adding any kind of plug in -- especially one like Winter -- is not something that can be taken lightly. As far as performance hits though, Winter shouldn't be too bad; if the page doesn't have a {{# on it, the engine won't even bother parsing the text. I can't say how much of a load something like the random fact generator on the front page would create though.
        • Your plug-in idea sounds pretty interesting, and definitely useful. I'm not sure how exactly you'd go about it except by checking every link on a page and rewriting it so it points to the the correct old version. Finding the correct old version would be the annoying part I suppose. Actually maybe it wouldn't be so bad if you just wrote the link with a specific date as one of the url variables, and then the extension would fetch the correct page when the page is loading. Then you wouldn't have to find the correct date for every link, just the page you're going to. I don't know a lot about the mediawiki internals though; my extension mostly just attaches itself into a predefined hook, parses the text, spits it out and sends mediawiki on its way. I think you'd have to access the wiki db to find the correct revision.. probably not too hard though.--Frantik (Talk) 02:46, 18 August 2007 (EDT)

Uncredited image

Hey, Frantik. An image you uploaded to Heroes Wiki (Image:Bridge.png) is not credited. This goes against our license. You will need to either put the source for this image, or let me know that it can be deleted. If the image remains uncredited it will eventually be deleted. If you have any questions about what to do, please let me know on my talk page. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:38, 19 March 2009 (EDT)

  • I went ahead and deleted the image listed above. If you would like me to do an undelete, just let me know the missing source, and I'll restore what you request. Thanks. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:27, 2 April 2009 (EDT)
    • you mean like what was the episode? I really don't remember.. it was in season 1 with the Hatian on a bridge. it's ok if it's deleted i really doubt anyone looked at it recently anyways ;) --Frantik (Talk) 12:43, 23 April 2009 (EDT)
