Mark Lyon has been a first assistant director for Heroes, many other television series and a few films. Those other television series include American Dreams, The Closer, Head cases, Hidden Palms, Silk Stalkings and Windfall. The films for which he has been a first assistant director include television movies Second Honeymoon (2001) and Sunset Beat (1990).

Mark Lyon has also been second assistant director for television series including The Fall Guy, Kingpin, Murder, She Wrote and Spenser: For Hire, and for films such as The Beast Within (1982), Judgement (1989), Kung Fu: The Movie (1986) and Stranger at My Door (1991).

Besides being an assistant director, Mark Lyon has been a production assistant on the television series Kaz and the films Fade to Black (1980), Leadbelly (1976) and Scavenger Hunt (1979).
