Talk:Thompson's colleague
(Redirected from Talk:Facial recognition agent)
Name
The agent was also at the bar the previous night and had seen the disguised Penny along with Thompson. He then assists by using the Company's computer to match the face in his mind to a person in the Company's database. That means he knows how to use the facial recognition software in the Company's computer.--MiamiVolts (talk) 05:57, 27 May 2008 (EDT)
- So he goes to the bar with Thompson, calls him "dude", and he's not his friend? Checking a database of known Company associates (which may not use any special software--it seems to me that he was simply browsing images of people) does not make one a "facial recognition" expert. And even if he does have knowledge of some software that may or may not have been used, calling him a "facial recognition agent" implies that that's what his specialty is, and there's just no way to know that for sure. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:49, 27 May 2008 (EDT)
- It makes Thompson his friend but not the other way around. Come on, you really think the agent could have just browsed a database of known Company target associates? That's not realistic considering we know that the Company's been operating bag and tag operations for over a decade or two... There must be hundreds or thousands of people in the New York database alone.--MiamiVolts (talk) 07:08, 27 May 2008 (EDT)
- Yeah, I really do. I used to work at a police station in a really rough part of Washington, DC, and I set up a database of mugshots collected over eleven years. Though the database was large, I included searchable characteristics--hair color, eye color, distinguishing characteristics, etc. One of the uses of the database was a digital lineup: victims of crimes would browse old mugshots in order to identify the suspect. Browsing the database was really not a very big deal at all. It required no expertise of any software (in fact, there was no specialized software used) and given a few details--like hair color and eye color--the search became very manageable.
Now, this agent certainly may be an expert at facial recognition and that may be his only job, but I find that highly unlikely, especially since Thompson seemed surprised at what the guy was doing. Calling him a "facial recognition agent" just makes it seem like that's what the guy does all day long. In the end, it's not the guy's main job (or even part of his job, probably), and it's speculative. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:18, 27 May 2008 (EDT)- Wow, that's cool. What I meant though was that browsing the database would mean seeing page after page of suspects without any searching. I consider adding hair color, eye color, distinguishing characteristics, etc. to a search part of facial recognition. As for it being what the guy does all day long, you've got the experience to know that that part is speculative. That said, I think that Thompson's surprise is mainly cause the guy found a matching photo and he didn't expect him to. Can we pick another name besides Facial recognition agent, blond agent and Thompson's friend that is not speculative?--MiamiVolts (talk) 07:46, 27 May 2008 (EDT)
- "Company agent" is available. And yeah, it was a pretty cool database--the Company's database reminded me a bit of what I used to do. Plus, it's always fun to see how "wonderful" people look in their mugshots. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:54, 27 May 2008 (EDT)

Devin?
Could this be Devin? I think they look similar if you consider Micah Gunnell's art style. -Lөvөl 14:30, 24 June 2008 (EDT)
- I doubt it. Mark Sable talked about him as if he were a new character in Interview:Mark Sable.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:28, 24 June 2008 (EDT)
